Neal, of the Miami Herald, reports TEs Anthony Fasano and Joey Haynos have combined for 11 receptions and 115 yards with one touchdown so far this season. However, both tight ends have been solid blockers in the running game. According to head coach Tony Sparano, opponents have played their safeties down in the middle of the field, which doesn't allow the tight ends room to work the area without great effort. "When you are running the ball as well as we are running the ball, not too many teams are going to sit there and say, 'Hey, we are going to put two of these guys deep and just try to stop this thing with seven guys,'" Sparano said. The Browns (1-6) are headed towards their eighth losing season in 11 years since returning to the NFL. "That (ticks) me off. This is Cleveland. They're going to show up and back this damn team," Ryan said. "This is a town that's tough and that loves football. Nobody's happy. I hate me, too. So they hate me. Great. Doesn't mean you turn your back."

"I was limited," Stafford said. "I didn't get all the reps, but I took a few. This is the most I've done on it, and it felt pretty good."

Schwartz continues to make sure he gives as little information as possible about his players. "Absolutely nothing," said Schwartz, when asked what he would reveal about Stafford's participation in Tuesday's practice. Russell was pulled from the game in Week 7 midway through the second quarter after completing 6 of 11 passes for 61 yards with two interceptions and a fumble.

David White, of the San Francisco Chronicle, reports Russell fumbled the first snap of the game during Week 7 in part because he did not have the offense lined up in the right formation. Head coach Tom Cable called for a "four vertical" pass play from the Raiders 10-yard line, thinking his aggressive call would catch the New York Jets by surprise. Russell, however, did not get the offense lined up in the right formation, then ignored the checkdown option while holding the ball too long. His ensuing sack and lost fumble were a predictable result. "You wouldn't expect to have that kind of mental error on the first play of the game," Cable said.

QB Michael Vick (PHI) CBSSports.com reports Michael Vick said he is happy with his role on the team. "I am happy with my role. Things are progressing. The flow of the game is dictating my playing time, and I am okay with that," Vick said.

I don't know if I was getting any hungrier," Smith said. "I've kind of been waiting. It's been frustrating and I've got a chance to get back out there and make the most of it."

Daniel Brown, of the San Jose Mercury News, reports Smith will likely remain the team's starting quarterback for the foreseeable future, according to head coach Mike Singletary. "We're not going to be a flavor-of-the-month kind of team," Singletary said.

He will make the first start of his career against the Green Bay Packers in Week 9. Josh Johnson will be the backup, with Byron Leftwich serving as the third quarterback on the depth chart.

*** Friday Update *** QB Kerry Collins (TEN) Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports Kerry Collins said he is not happy about his demotion but is ready to support Vince Young as the team's new starting quarterback. "I am not happy about it, don't get me wrong by any stretch of the imagination. But I have nothing to be ashamed about. I practiced hard, worked as hard as I could. It wasn't because I didn't try and wasn't putting everything I had into it. But now I'll support Vince, and I fully expect everybody in this offense to support Vince," Collins said.

*** Thursday Update *** QB Kerry Collins (TEN) Vince Young will be the starting QB for this weeks game. Coach Jeff Fisher said it was an organizational decision resulting from the team's winless start and that he won't play musical chairs with the position.

"We're in a unique situation right now. We haven't won a game. We wouldn't be having this conversation if we were 3-3," Fisher said.

"We've decided to go ahead and start Vince this week," Fisher said. "As far as the future is concerned, I'm not one of those coaches who's going to have musical chairs at the quarterback position. He's going to be our starter. I felt like both quarterbacks had an extremely good week last week."

Coach Jeff Fisher said it was an organizational decision resulting from the team's winless start and that he won't play musical chairs with the position."We\'re in a unique situation right now.

Fisher was non-committal when asked if Kerry Collins or Young would start in Week 8, citing competitive reasons. "We've had a week to do some different things and considering the circumstances we're in right now with the record, there's things that you need to do differently," Fisher said. "Let's just say I am not going to be as specific and open-ended from a competitive standpoint."

RB Chris Wells (ARI) Darren Urban, of AZCardinals.com, reports that Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt said that Chris Wells will not start anytime soon, but he will continue to get more work. "People smell blood because he's put some balls on the ground," Kubiak said. "Steve's our guy, and I have a lot of confidence in him. It's our job to help him find a way to hold on to the football. *** Friday Update *** RB Larry Johnson (KC) ESPN.com reports Larry Johnson will file his appeal of his two-week suspension Friday, Oct. 30, according to his agent, Peter Shaffer. The hearing on the suspension is expected to be held Tuesday, Nov. 3.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Larry Johnson (KC) Peter Schaffer, Johnson's agent, told the National Football Post they were "Working on grievance and settlement."

If the suspension is upheld, Johnson would lose more than $600,000 in lost wages.

Following the suspension, Schaffer said Wednesday night that he planned to file an appeal.

"We respect the Chiefs' right to impose discipline on their team, but it's our belief that the discipline they've imposed on Larry isn't allowed under the CBA," Schaffer said. "And, if it is, then it's greater than warranted by the actions. It's our hope that we can resolve this with the team prior to the hearing. If not, then whatever the arbitrator says we will comply with it."

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Larry Johnson (KC) Jeff Risdon, of RealGM.com, reports that a team source has told him that the Chiefs will release Larry Johnson.

ESPN.com reports Johnson is not expected to play in the team's next game, Nov. 8, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Johnson issued an apology Tuesday, Oct. 27, and was told to stay away from the team while the NFL and the Chiefs complete their investigation into his use of a gay slur.

ESPN.com also reports the Chiefs could be checking to see whether Johnson violated contract provisions that would allow the Chiefs to cut him with reduced financial obligation after Johnson's use of a gay slur. Last spring, an arbitrator ruled that the Chiefs could release the running back and not owe him $3.5 million in guaranteed money because he had violated contract conditions by pleading guilty to disturbing the peace in another incident. The issue became moot when the team elected not to cut him.

RB Larry Johnson (KC) It has not been a good few days for Larry Johnson.

First, Johnson criticized head coach Todd Haley via his Twitter account for not having playing experience and compared Haley to his father, who is a defensive line coach at Penn State. "My father played for the coach from 'Rememeber the Titans'. Our coach played golf. My father played for the Redskins briefly. Our coach. Nuthn," Johnson Tweeted.

Bill Williamson, of ESPN.com, reports the agent for Johnson said late Sunday, Oct. 25, that his client was simply trying to promote his own father and not to discredit head coach Todd Haley in a Twitter rant. "I talked to Larry about it and he was focusing more on pumping up his father than anything else," agent Peter Schaffer said. "He wasn't trying to downgrade anyone. Yes, everyone is frustrated after a loss like this but I wouldn't put too much into it." Johnson had just 49 rushing yards on 16 carries in Week 7.

Also, Kent Babb, of The Kansas City Star, reports Johnson used a gay slur Monday, Oct. 26, after saying he would not talk to reporters while at the team's locker room. Johnson, sitting down, told reporters that "I'm not talking till Thursday," - his usual day of speaking with the media. Then Johnson turned away and whispered, "Get your f----- ass out of here." Head coach Todd Haley was asked at his news conference about Johnson's comments and said the matter was being investigated by the team.

Bill Williamson reported on Tuesday that the Chiefs instructed Johnson to refrain from practicing with the team or participating in other team activities while the NFL investigates the comments that he recently made. A decision on Johnson's status will be made once the investigation is over.

There are some people speculating that the team could cut Johnson loose as early as this week. That's just talk at this point but clearly, it's an ugly situation for Johnson right now.

Bush is averaging 10.5 offensive touches a game, by far the lowest in his four seasons.

Mike Garafolo, of the Star-Ledger, reports Bradshaw has been told by the team's doctors as well as a specialist that he has a cracked bone in his foot but has been cleared to play until the end of the season or his foot breaks. "I just plan on going out there and giving my all. If it breaks, it does, and I'll get surgery. If not, I'll wait until the end of the season. Hopefully, then I won't need it. But more than likely, I'll plan on having surgery," Bradshaw said.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Ahmad Bradshaw (NYG) did not practice on Wednesday.
