Whatever they want me to do, I'm going to go out there and do it."

Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell had this: "There was a point where he (Tarvaris Jackson) was playing very well for us, I thought he was competing hard, and it just came down to you need to make the plays that were there.

"Gus has done a nice job. He's come in, he's picked up things well, he's practiced hard, he's competed hard. I think he was a good resource for Tarvaris, and now it's just going to give him an opportunity."

Does this change mean that Frerotte is the quarterback for the rest of the season?

"Well, I think it remains to be seen," Bevell said. "Like what I told Gus: You just need to make the plays that are there, be able to throw and catch and get the ball where it's supposed to go."

*** Wednesday Update *** QB Tarvaris Jackson (MIN) has been benched in favor of Gus Frerotte.

QB Tarvaris Jackson (MIN) HC Brad Childress softened his stance a bit Tuesday regarding his commitment to Tarvaris Jackson as his starting quarterback. "In light of everything, it just makes sense to go with that. [Young] has to get back. He is eventually going to be under center for us. When that happens, I don't know. *** Friday Update *** RB Willis McGahee (BAL) is no longer listed on the injury report one month after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. However, it doesn't look like he's going to be featured in the offense Sunday. McGahee is expected to have a limited role with Ray Rice and Le'Ron McClain taking the majority of the carries. "He'll complement Le'Ron, you guys know how we feel about Le'Ron and his ability to play both positions," offensive coordinator Cam Cameron said. "Ray, he's just getting better and better. *** Thursday Update *** RB Ryan Grant (GB) partially participated in Thursday's practice. "I feel fine," Grant said. "I think this might be the last week I'm on this schedule."

The Packers have limited Grant in practice because of the injury and reduced some of his workload in the first two games of the season. Grant had only 20 yards on 15 carries in Detroit on Sunday, but said the injury wasn't holding him back.

RB Larry Johnson (KC) has some comments after his Week 2 game against Oakland. "I've got to sit back and figure that the writing is on the wall, that this season or next season could be my last season as a Chief," Johnson said. "I don't know. But obviously if they're making personnel changes now and I'm not even in for any of the snaps to [try to] help win this game, then that pretty much says it for all." Of course his HC answered on Monday saying that Johnson is not being phased out of the offense. "We haven't lost any confidence in him at all," Edwards said. "He'll still our starter and still the guy we're going to most often. We'd like him to touch the ball 20, 25 times every game. But it doesn't always work out that way." The team has been replacing Johnson with rookie Jamaal Charles or Kolby Smith in obvious passing situations and when they are near the opponent's goal line.

It's worth noting that Mike Reiss from the Boston Globe reports that last week, both TE Benjamin Watson and WR Sam Aiken returned from injury to practice on Friday, but did not suit up in Sunday's game. So seeing Maroney at practice Friday may not mean a lot.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Laurence Maroney (NE) did not practice on Thursday. There is very little injury news every released from the Patriots, but it is usually a bad sign when a player doesn't practice on Thursday.

*** Wednesday Update *** RB Laurence Maroney (NE) did not practice on Wednesday.

*** Thursday Update *** RB Deuce McAllister (NO) should see more work in the coming weeks according to HC Sean Payton. "That's the plan," Payton said. "How much each week will depend on the game, but the plan is to get [McAllister] and [cornerback] Mike [McKenzie] more involved. A lot of it will be dependent upon the game plan and who we're playing."

"It doesn't look very good right now," coach Lane Kiffin said. "The sooner he can get back, the better for us. He's very valuable to us, especially in protections, so, hopefully, we'll have him back. But it doesn't look very good."

RB Justin Fargas (OAK) underwent an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of the injury to his groin. HC Lane Kiffin said that the results will be in by Wednesday's practice.

*** Friday Update *** RB Darren McFadden (OAK) practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play in Week 3. His number of carries will depend on how the foot holds up on the artificial surface in Buffalo. "You think you see a guy with turf toe, 'Oh, it's just a toe, he can go with it,'" McFadden said. "Once you get it, you understand why because every move that you make on it ... it's pretty painful." He has been practicing with a steel plate over his right big toe.

"But at that same time, I'm going to be realistic about it. I'm pretty sure on Monday, I'll probably still have a little problem with it but it will be a week better."

Coach Norv Turner said Tomlinson was "limited" during Friday's practice. Turner said he isn't sure how much Tomlinson will be able to contribute.

"I don't think you know until you get into the game, and that's why you have to have flexibility in your plan."

One thing working in Tomlinson's favor is an extra day of recovery time.

"It will give me some more time. That's why I definitely think I'll feel a lot better," Tomlinson said. "What's the percentage? I'm not sure. We'll have to wait and see."

*** Thursday Update *** RB LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) missed practice again Thursday. Coach Norv Turner doesn't know if Tomlinson will practice on Friday.

"He'll come out like he did today, move around a little bit, get treatment, do exercises inside, and I'm sure if he feels like he can go, he will," Turner said.

"There were different times during the game that he didn't feel very good. But what he told me was the morning after the game it didn't feel worse than it did a week ago," Turner said.

With another day of rest and treatment, it's feeling a little better today, so hopefully, I'm just going to play it by ear this week, see how it feels later in the week. I'm hoping that it's going to make big progress this week, and by Monday night hopefully I'll be as close to 100 percent as possible."

RB LaDainian Tomlinson (SD) aggravated his sprained toe late in the second quarter of his Week 2 game against Denver. "It tightened up some, swelled up a little bit," Tomlinson said. *** Friday Update *** WR Marvin Harrison (IND) was excused from Friday's practice but will play this weekend. For what it's worth, Harrison is drawing quite a bit of criticism from analysts. Merril Hoge said recently, "I'm not ready to say he's done, but he sure looked done in that (Minnesota) game. When Dallas Clark comes back, it's going to be hard to keep him (Clark) off the field.

"He's just not a factor. He's not as good off the ball. Not as good with his routes. It's just kind of sad to see . . . Maybe he's still working back off the injuries, and that's what I kind of hope, but I've been watching tape of him since I retired. I'm used to seeing certain things and what I saw was a guy who is a half-second slower in everything he does. He's not the same route runner, not the same intensity."

NBC's Cris Collinsworth said roughly the same thing during Sunday's studio show.

"One of the problems this Colts offense has had thus far is that Marvin Harrison is no longer the deep threat he once was," Collinsworth said.
