Week 20: at San Francisco 49ers - $3000

All RB vs SF

FBG says: Tough matchup. The Green Bay Packers' rushing attack, much like their passing attack, grades as a firmly-league-average unit across the board. Their volume ranked 13th in the league, the total yardage ranked 15th in the league, and the rushing efficiency came in at 16th overall. One notable trend in recent weeks for this unit has been the re-emergence of Aaron Jones as a true bell-cow running back. After shouldering a heavy load early in the season, head coach Matt LaFleur noted that he needed to lessen his workload to ensure Jones did not wear-down before the playoffs. Jones' weekly snap-share decreased significantly after these comments, but it has risen back to bell-cow level numbers across the team's last two games, one a high-leverage game for playoff seeding, and one a playoff matchup against the Seahawks last weekend. Over these two games, Jones has played an average of 84.5-percent of total offensive snaps, while carrying the ball 23 times per game. Expect another heavy dose of Aaron Jones this weekend, as he is the team's clear number-one option in the backfield. San Francisco's run defense defended the 9th-fewest rushing attempts of any team in the NFL this year, which served as the driving force behind their strong overall totals against the run. The 49ers allowed just 11 scores on the ground this year, and although they permitted over 4.5 yards per carry (23rd in the league,) they ranked 2nd in total fantasy points allowed to opposing running backs during the regular season. Along the defensive line, Nick Bosa, DeForest Buckner, and Arik Armstead are three of the league's best and most consistent run-stoppers. However, at linebacker, the 49ers are definitively weak against the run. Both Fred Warner and Kwon Alexander make a living defending the pass, but neither is particularly adept at stifling opposing rushing attacks. Warner struggled this season, missing 21 total tackles on the year, while Alexander, who played only 9 games, missed 10 tackles himself. This inability to full rushing lanes and finish plays is the primary reason for San Francisco's poor efficiency metrics against opposing rushing attacks. In the secondary, Richard Sherman and Jimmie Ward are top-tier run-supporters at their respective positions, and they are two of the surest tacklers on the 49ers' defense. On the whole, the strength of this defense in the trenches and at the back-end has helped to prevent opposing running backs from gashing San Francisco on a regular basis (only 2 100-yard performances allowed this season,) but their weak linebacking corps has struggled to hold up its end of the bargain. Overall, this weekend's conference championship grades as a tough matchup for the Packers' rushing attack. Although their efficiency totals may live up to their regular-season standards unless the Packers elect to run the ball substantially more than they typically do, they are unlikely to post remarkable rushing totals on San Francisco's defense.
