News you need to know

From the upgrade/downgrade report (Mon Nov 17): Wayne looked as good as ever despite being in the November-December of his career. Ahmad Bradshaw's injury could shake free a few targets, and future opponents should copy the Patriots strategy of taking TY Hilton away with extra coverage. Wayne is a nice WR2 going forward, with a big game likely against the Jaguars this week.

General News (Thu Nov 20): practiced fully on Thursday.

General News (Wed Nov 19): did not practice on Wednesday (he was excused).

Week 12: vs Jacksonville Jaguars

Mark and Joe say: Great matchup. Andrew Luck and company bombed the Jaguars for 33/43 yielding 385 net yards, four TDs and zero interceptions en route to a 44-17 shellacking of their divisional rivals back in Week 3. Luck hit his receivers essentially at will, distributing TDs to Hakeem Nicks (four targets for 4/51/1 receiving), Coby Fleener (seven for 4/49/1), Dwayne Allen (six for 4/43/1) and Ahmad Bradshaw (three for 2/18/1) - T.Y. Hilton led the team in receiving yards that day with six for 5/80/0. The Jaguars cold do little to cope with Indianapolis earlier this year. Lately, the Colts have remained as formidable as ever in this phase of the game, with 48/85 for 657 yards passing, six TDs and one interception thrown for Luck over the past two contests. He's spread the wealth around, with 18 targets for 11/221/2 receiving for Coby Fleener; 19 for 9/161/1 flowing to Reggie Wayne; and 13 for 6/95/1 going to T.Y. Hilton. Meanwhile, the Jaguars' pass D has allowed 21/28 for 248 net yards, three TDs and zero interceptions to Tony Romo and company (Week 10), and 19/31 for 232 net yards, two TDs and two interceptions to Andy Dalton (Week 9). To date, Jacksonville is ranked 26th in the NFL averaging 261.9 net passing yards allowed per game, with 18 passing scores given up vs. just five interceptions (tied-27th in the NFL) and 28 sacks (seventh) generated Advantage, Indianapolis.

Recent Game Summaries

2014 Week 9 vs NYG (10 / 4 / 70 / 1 rec)

Bouncing back nicely from injury, the veteran wide receiver looked as good as ever on Monday, catching darts over the middle of the field for first downs and taking one crossing route down the sideline for a 40-yard touchdown, even if it didn't need any broken or missed tackles. It was the third time this season that Wayne has hit double-digit targets, and he's produced at least 70 yards in all three of those games.

2014 Week 11 vs NE (9 / 5 / 91 / 0 rec)

The 36-year-old receiver was heavily involved early, as the Patriots left one-on-one coverage on him for most of the evening, but Darrelle Revis picked up his game, and limited Wayne after a big first half. Still, Wayne finished with 91 yards on the day and reminded us that he's still capable of big moments, especially given Andrew Luck's affinity for him on third downs. Wayne doesn't get the separation he once did, but his hands are still fantastic and Luck can fit the ball into tight windows.

Our View: Wayne has been getting a healthy amount of targets lately, and the last two games he has managed to turn that into receptions and yards. We like Wayne as a solid WR2 against a suspect Jacksonville defense and with Ahmad Bradshaw out.
