News you need to know

From the upgrade/downgrade report (Tue Sep 16): Wayne's game was a disappointment for anyone that needed points from him to win, but he made two clutch plays on a fumble and interception to keep the Colts on track, and as the offense inevitably opens up and embraces Andrew Luck's considerable abilities, Wayne is going to level off as a solid WR2.

General News (Wed Sep 17): did not practice on Wednesday.

Week 3: at Jacksonville Jaguars

Recent Game Summaries

2014 Week 1 vs DEN (13 / 9 / 98 / 0 rec)

Sunday proved that Reggie Wayne is back. He led the Colts in targets, catches and yards, and he should continue to be Luck's security blanket on third downs. His catches ranged from 20 yards downfield on play action to screen passes, so watch for him to continue to be a starting fantasy play if he can stay on the field. Wayne was a little gimpy after a slip/knee buckle and was a bit tentative, so he will only get better as he knocks off the rust.

2014 Week 2 vs PHI (7 / 3 / 28 / 0 rec)

He's still Andrew Luck's option 1A, but Wayne was kept in check for much of Monday night, both by the Eagles and by Pep Hamilton's playcalling. A more run-heavy game plan meant less opportunities for Wayne, who excels when the offense gets in a rhythm moving down the field in spread sets. The Colts tried to get him involved with screens, but at 35, that's just not his game. Expect Wayne to bounce back in coming weeks, he still received seven targets against Philadelphia and was the second-most targeted receiver.

Colts | Reggie Wayne back on field (Fri Sep 12, 04:02 PM) - Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne (rest) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 12.

Our View: Wayne looked like a player ready to have a great season less than one year removed from an ACL tear in Week 1. He definitely had some tentative moments and rust to knock off, but he was still a WR1 in PPR leagues. If Pep Hamilton takes the shackles off of Andrew Luck, Wayne could continue that momentum against Philadelphia this week.

Colts | Reggie Wayne not practicing (Thu Sep 11, 12:13 PM) - Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne (knee) is not participating in practice Thursday, Sept. 11.

Our View: We'll see if this is something that becomes a concern tomorrow—as of right now, they may just be giving him time off. His matchup isn't fantastic this weekend and we see him as a WR3 against the Eagles secondary.

Colts | No restrictions for Reggie Wayne (Sat Sep 6, 10:56 PM) - Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne (knee) will not have a snap count or any other restrictions during the team's Week 1 game Sunday, Sept. 7.

Our View: Wayne is a solid WR2 in what should be a high scoring game at Denver.

Colts | Reggie Wayne to play (Fri Sep 5, 04:16 PM) - Indianapolis Colts WR Reggie Wayne (rest) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 5, and is probable for Week 1.

Our View: Wayne showed up to camp in style and fully ready to practice. He's a solid WR2 with a high ceiling in a potential shootout at Denver.
