Watt underwent two back surgeries in 2016, the later in September, but he has been cleared for all football activities and has been a full participant in OTAs and the offseason weight program. Head coach Bill O'Brien said Watt is "on track to be ready to go" in March.

J.J. Watt was shut down for the 2016 season after suffering a herniated disc. He has been careful to come back slowly and rehab his injury with care. He is back in consideration for the top defensive lineman in fantasy football. Watt will also benefit from the pressure that his linemate Jadeveon Clowney can generate. In Watt's absence, Clowney came into his own, recording six sacks and setting a career high in tackles with 52. Paired with Whitney Mercilus and Zach Cunningham generating pressure on the outside and DJ Reader creating interior havok, this will make offenses unable to focus solely on Watt. Expect Watt to produce over 50 tackles and double digit sacks once again. (May 7)

Texans | J.J. Watt feels 'fantastic' (Sun May 14, 11:23 AM) - Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) told the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson he feels 'fantastic' after undergoing a pair of microdiscectomy surgeries last season to repair the same herniated disk in his back.

Our View: Great news for Watt and the Texans here. Watt missed most of last year (appeared in only three games) due to this back problem, and the multiple surgeries to repair the damage. He'll be limited during OTAs and minicamp, but it sounds like he should be good to go for the start of training camp.
