Trevathan was carted off the practice with a left leg injury in practice on Tuesday, August 12. Trevathan told Josina Anderson: "They told me that my ACL and MCL are fine, but that I have a fracture in my knee. The doctor told me I was going to be out four to eight weeks, but I told him four to six." He could miss as many as three games, but the Broncos have a Week 4 bye, so that is likely the most unless he has a setback in his recovery.

Summary

In his second year in the league, and first as a starter, Trevathan excelled in the middle of the Broncos defense. He posted 88 solo tackles, 2 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles. The 6th round pick out of Kentucky is just 24 years old and shows signs that he's still getting better. Trevathan is still improving in pass coverage and shows a knack for the big play. He had a game high 12 tackles in Super Bowl XLVIII. (May 16)

Broncos | Danny Trevathan will need to stay off knee for a while (Wed Aug 13, 02:13 PM) - Denver Broncos LB Danny Trevathan (knee) should initially keep weight off his left leg to make sure the crack in his knee does not become larger or create other problems in the knee, according to ESPN injury expert Stephania Bell. Trevathan may be able to put weight on the knee gradually depending on how the recovery goes. Once he is able to move the knee, he can work in a pool or on a treadmill that controls the amount of weight on his knee so he can work on his conditioning. The team believes he will be able to play after their Week 4 bye.

Our View: Our very own Dr. Jene Bramel says that Trevathan's 6-8 week recovery time might be a bit optimistic. The Broncos defense won't be the same in coverage without Trevathan for at least the first month of the season. Brandon Marshall and rookie Lamin Barrow will compete to take over at weak-side linebacker.

Broncos | ACL, MCL fine for Danny Trevathan (Tue Aug 12, 07:58 PM) - Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos LB Danny Trevathan (knee) said Tuesday, Aug. 12, that his left knee does not have a torn anterior cruciate ligament or medial collateral ligament, but he confirmed an MRI showed he has a left medial tibial impaction fracture which will keep him out six to eight weeks. 'The doctor told me I was going to be out four to eight weeks, but I told him four to six. I'm not tripping. I will bounce back. I'm a soldier,' Trevathan said.

Our View: That's good news for Trevathan, but it's not going to shorten his recovery time. He's out until at least Week 5 of the regular season. The Broncos will turn to guys like Brandon Marshall or Lamin Barrow at weak-side linebacker.

Broncos | Danny Trevathan injury (Tue Aug 12, 04:16 PM) - Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos LB Danny Trevathan (knee) suffered a left medial tibial impaction fracture in practice Tuesday, Aug. 12, and is expected to miss six to eight weeks.

Our View: The Broncos have a bye in Week 4. We could see Trevathan return after that for their Week 5 game against the Arizona Cardinals. In the meantime, linebacker Brandon Marshall and rookie Lamin Barrow will compete for the weak-side linebacker job in Denver.

Broncos | Danny Trevathan update (Tue Aug 12, 04:10 PM) - Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos LB Danny Trevathan (knee) suffered a fractured knee and will reportedly miss four to eight weeks.

Broncos | Brandon Marshall gets first-team reps (Tue Aug 12, 02:32 PM) - Denver Broncos LB Brandon M. Marshall filled in with the first-team defense in practice Tuesday, Aug. 12, after LB Danny Trevathan (knee) suffered a knee injury. Marshall would be the most likely candidate to fill in if Trevathan missed any time.

Our View: Marshall is an aggressive player with a nose for the ball. He arrives at the ball with natural violence, but he's not as good in coverage as Trevathan is.
