Week 6: vs New York Giants

All RB vs NYG

FBG says: Great matchup. Sony Michel and the Patriots have been disappointing so far this season but were better last week against the Redskins as Michel rushed for 5.7 yards per carry while finding the end-zone. The biggest thing for this offense continues to be the transformation of the offensive line as Michel is a downhill runner who does not create his own holes by using cutbacks like a lot of other running backs do. The offensive line had their best game of the season as newcomers Ted Karras at center and Marshall Newhouse were liabilities early on this season but played well this past week and Marcus Cannon who has been dealing with an injury seems to be improving his play as he no longer seems limited. Complimenting Michel this week will likely be Rex Burkhead who missed last week with a foot injury which will be tremendous for this Patriots offense as Burkhead has played the change of pace back as a slasher tremendously this season rushing for 4.7 yards per carry averaging 8 carries per game. The Giants rushing defense is one that is starting to show its cracks. After showing promise in Week 1 holding the Cowboys to just 77 yards on 26 carries. Last week, the Giants allowed 208 yards rushing to Minnesota completely exposing Nate Stupar who has been primarily a special teams player throughout his career. The good news for the Giants is that they should be getting Alec Ogletree back from injury after he has missed the last two games. Ogletree is still a below-average middle-linebacker but should provide an upgrade to Stupar who just does not have much experience in his nine-year NFL career playing the position and was forced into it due to injury. The defensive line led by rookie Dexter Lawrence, Dalvin Tomlinson, and B.J. Hill are strong, can cause havoc as we saw against the Redskins who were unable to even get to the second-level as Adrian Peterson averaged just 2.4 yards per carry. The running backs who have had success are speed running backs who can get off-tackle in Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison, and Ronald Jones. This could be a game that suits up better for James White and Rex Burkhead than it does Sony Michel, but all three are in a good situation this week.
