From the upgrade/downgrade report (Mon Sep 8): Don't expect much out of the Oakland passing game this year, but when there is something of value, it will likely come from Streater, as it did on Sunday against the Jets, when Streater had five catches and a score.

Week 2: vs Houston Texans

Mark and Joe say: Bad matchup. Derek Carr got off to a strong start last week, completing his first seven dinks-and-dunks, but then the wheels came off for Oakland. Carr finished the game with 20/32 for 151 passing yards, with two passing scores and zero interceptions - the TDs helped fantasy owners of Rod Streater (seven targets for 5/46/1 receiving) and James Jones (three for 3/34/1), but Oakland was never really in the game vs. the Jets, trailing for almost the entire game. Tight end Mychal Rivera was the other Raider over 12 yards receiving, with five targets for 3/31/0 receiving. We'll see how Carr reacts to the pressure at the Black Hole this weekend - it is a home game for the Raiders, which may help things a bit. The Texans' pass D sacked Robert Griffin III three times for -26 yards, and got an astronomical 14 other hits on the quarterback. Under this extreme duress, Griffin managed 29/37 for 241 yards passing, zero TDs and zero interceptions, which led to a 17-6 victory for Houston. The Texans' pass D was stung for 21/27 yielding 243 passing yards, two TDs and one interception thrown by Peyton Manning on August 23rd (he took only one sack for -6 yards) in the third preseason game. Last season the Texans averaged just 195 passing yards allowed per game (third in the NFL), but they gave up a hefty 29 passing scores, and had a league-worst mark in interceptions (just seven) and they were second-to-last in sacks generated with just 32. This season they are on pace for a lot more sacks and look overall better, but there is still more room for improvement in this phase of the game. Carr and company has a tough assignment again this week as the Texans' ferocious pass rushers will pin their ears back and get after the rookie quarterback for sure.

Recent Game Summaries

2014 Week 1 vs NYJ (7 / 5 / 46 / 1 rec)

Streater was Carr's favorite target in the first half, seeing a lot of passes underneath the defense. His touchdown came on a great play design. Streater caught the ball in the flats at the 12 yard line and flashed good speed to get around two blocks and to the pylon untouched. His only catch down field came on a 17 yard back shoulder throw that was well executed by Carr and Streater showed good timing with the rookie. With the Raiders focusing on short passes it was only natural for Streater to be the most involved.
