Week 7: at Washington Redskins
Mark and Joe say: Good matchup. Jake Locker remains the Titans' starting quarterback when healthy, according to head coach Ken Whisenhunt on Monday, October 13. However, that phrase 'when healthy' is the issue this week as Locker's thumb on his throwing hand is reportedly still giving him trouble. If he can't practice later in the week, look for Charlie Whitehurst to give it another whirl on Sunday at Washington's FedEx Field. Whitehurst led the Titans to a narrow 16-14 win over the lowly Jaguars last week with 17/28 for 233 yards passing, zero TDs or interceptions thrown, with three sacks taken for -13 yards. He relied on Justin Hunter (five targets for 3/77/0 receiving), Delanie Walker (eight for 3/57/0) and Dexter McCluster (six for 6/52/0) the most last weekend. The Washington pass D is ranked 13th in the NFL averaging 228.3 net passing yards allowed per game, with a hefty 13 passing scores given up vs. just two interceptions generated (tied for next-to-last in the NFL). The defensive front does have 15 sacks this season, but that hasn't helped stem the bleeding on the score-board. Tennessee is 28th in the NFL with 17 sacks allowed though, so Whitehurst is likely to see a lot of pass rushers in his face this weekend. Washington allowed 28/44 for 243 net yards, two TDs and zero interceptions to Carson Palmer last weekend (one sack for -7 yards), while Seattle posted 18/24 for 178 net yards, two TDs and zero interceptions (with three sacks taken for -23 yards). As you can see, scoring two passing TDs against the Washington defense is an ordinary event this year. This is a good but not outstanding matchup for the Titans, as the Washington pass rush prowess intersects with a weakness on the Titans' pass-blocking up front.

Latest NewsTitans | Brett Brackett joining active roster (Sat Oct 18, 11:57 AM) - The Tennessee Titans will sign practice squad TE Brett Brackett to their active roster. The team will also place TE Craig Stevens (quadriceps) on Reserve/Injured list. Our View: If you're going to have a Tennessee tight end on your roster, it should be Delanie Walker, who we have down as a borderline TE1 this week. Anyone else is just blocking.
