2016 Week 7 vs BAL (4 / 8 / 95 / 1 / 0 pass, 1 / 7 / 0 rush)

Geno Smith started the game, but left due to a knee injury after just 24 plays. Smith was sharp early on, quickly going through his progressions and delivering crisp passes to open targets. Unfortunately, New York's receivers, namely Charone Peake and Brandon Marshall, dropped good throws over the middle of the field. Smith was able to make one big play, however. On a 2nd-and-19 play, Quincy Enunwa ran a button hook, sat down in the middle of Baltimore's zone coverage, evaded two tacklers and sped down the left side line for a 69-yard touchdown. While the big pass play gave the offense some confidence, Smith made some miscues that ultimately led to his injury. When receivers weren't open, Smith would opt to hold onto the ball rather than throwing it away. Smith took two sacks on just ten drop backs, which included an awkward landing on the sack that knocked him out of the game.

2016 Week 6 vs ARI (4 / 6 / 31 / 0 / 1 pass, 1 / 2 / 0 rush)

With his team facing a 28-3 fourth quarter deficit, Geno Smith replaced Ryan Fitzpatrick. Smith gave the offense a spark, picking up two first downs, but the drive came to end when Smith was intercepted on fourth down by Tyrann Mathieu. Smith primarily threw the ball over the middle of the field, easily making throws against zone coverage.

Our View: Smith is there to compete with Josh Johnson to be the backup to Eli Manning. He needed to move on from a busted career with the Jets, but don't expect any sort of career resurgence from Smith.

Giants | Geno Smith likely to Giants (Fri Mar 17, 11:52 AM) - Free-agent QB Geno Smith (Jets) will take a physical with the New York Giants, and he's expected to sign with them Monday, March 20.

Our View: The Giants just re-signed Josh Johnson on Friday, so they would have Smith compete with Johnson to be the backup behind Eli Manning. Smith needed a fresh start IS the Jets after all. However, we're not expecting him to do much of anything no matter where he goes to in the NFL.

Our View: Smith is unlikely to land a starting job, but he could work as veteran depth/backup for any of these teams that are showing interest. Things didn't work out with the Jets, and Smith could benefit from a fresh start.
