Sherman can talk the talk, but he can also walk the walk, and backs up his brash words with stellar play on the field. If he isn't one of the most supremely confident players in the league, than it's a good act. Confidence is an important attribute at the CB position (not allowing mistakes to shake it), and that may play a contributing role in his success. Because the focus is sometimes on the extracurricular chatter, it can deflect attention from how good an athlete Sherman really is. He was a track star and one of the best triple jumpers in California as a prep, had a personal best 10.7 100 m. time, has a 38" VJ, led Stanford in receiving and was a Freshman All-American WR before later switching positions and making the CB conversion. The WR background and experience partly explain Sherman's outstanding ball skills. His 8 INTs in 2013 led the NFL (only two DBs, Antrel Rolle and Brandon Boykin, had as many as 6 INTs). It wasn't a fluke, either, as he also had 8 INTs in 2012 (only Tim Jennings had more with 9 INTs) and 4 INTs in 2011, starting only 10 games as a rookie. His 20 INTs and 61 PD since 2011 lead the NFL in both categories. Whatever people think of Sherman's style or how he expresses himself on and off the field, his football IQ, instincts, play-to-play intensity and game-to-game consistency are exemplary. He also doesn't make "business decisions", and will stick his nose in for run support. After all, he is a member of the Legion of Boom. (May 26)
