Week 11: at Los Angeles Chargers

All RB vs LAC

FBG says: Neutral matchup. The Chiefs ground game had a decent showing against the Titans last week as Damien Williams led the way with a season-high 19 carries for 77 rushing yards. This was notable for Williams to see such a heavy workload as he was used as a true bell-dow last week given the surprising healthy scratch of LeSean McCoy and allotment of just two carries for Darrell Williams. Damien Williams did commit an ugly turnover last week, however, as he fumbled a ball that the Titans returned for a touchdown. Williams hadn't had ball security issues of note as he had yet to fumble at all coming into last week, so it remains to be seen if that could impact his usage in the eyes of this coaching staff given how they reacted to McCoy's fumble from Week 8 (he has seen 3 carries in two games since then). Regardless, Williams did look decent last week and was spectacular in Week 9 against the Vikings. What remains troubling about this rushing offense is the health of their offensive line. Tackle Eric Fisher and guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif are both battling injuries that have kept them sidelined, while two more offensive linemen were banged up in last week's game. Guard Martinas Rankin ended up suffering a season-ending knee injury while tackle Mitchell Schwartz returned to the game and is absent from the injury report. With this many injuries in the mix, the Chiefs offensive line would need a spectacular game to qualify for an average ranking. The Chargers run defense held Josh Jacobs relatively in check last week as he rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown from 16 carries. It was nothing like the spectacular showing of Week 9 against the Packers though, and this run defense was terrible for many of the preceding weeks. They have given up a rushing touchdown in six of their last eight games and are allowing opposing running backs to score the eighth-most fantasy points per game against them this season. Their defensive line did get healthier last week with the return of interior lineman Brandon Mebane, and while Justin Jones remained out, he could very well suit up this week. Having both Jones and Mebane in the lineup will certainly help this run defense, but they still have glaring issues in the second level--particularly at linebacker as they lack a consistent playmaker against the run. Denzel Perryman has played poorly whether healthy or not, and while Thomas Davis does lead the team in tackles (78), he is showing his age and been just average against the run. If Justin James does indeed suit up, this Chargers defensive line should have the edge over a banged-up Chiefs offensive line--however, big plays could still be had against this Los Angeles defense as we have seen on multiple occasions in 2019.
