Week 4: vs Carolina Panthers

All QB vs CAR

Mark and Joe say: Tough matchup. Matt Ryan continued his strong play against the Saints (despite an off night from Julio Jones, seven targets for 1/16/0 receiving), posting 20/30 for 240 yards passing, two TDs and zero interceptions thrown, with two sacks taken for -15 yards, on a night when the Falcons' running backs were unstoppable - Devonta Freeman (five targets for 5/55/1 receiving) and Tevin Coleman (three for 3/47/0) actually led the team in receiving as well as posting 31/217/3 rushing in the other phase of the game. Taylor Gabriel (three for 2/33/0) and Mohamed Sanu (four for 3/31/0) were the top wide receivers on Monday Night. Ryan said on Tuesday, September 27 that his injured left thumb is fine, and he put a glove on the hand in Week Three to ensure his grip on the ball. Also, Sanu is likely to play versus the Carolina Panthers after a shoulder injury kept him out of the second half in the team's Week Three win over the New Orleans Saints. He'll be receiving treatment from the trainers as the week goes along, but pay attention to his practice participation later in the week if you have Sanu in line to start for you this weekend. The Panthers' pass defense gave up just 18/28 for 153 net yards passing, one TD and zero interceptions wit two sacks for -18 yards generated during a 10-22 loss. To date, the Panthers average 183.0 net passing yards allowed per game (fifth-least in the NFL), with four passing TDs allowed balanced by four interceptions and six sacks generated so far this season. Over the first three weeks of the season, Carolina has averaged 16.8 fantasy points allowed per game to opposing quarterbacks (seventh-least in the NFL); and 11.9 fantasy points per game allowed to wide receivers (second-least); with 11 fantasy points given up per game to tight ends (seventh-most in the NFL). Ryan and company are hot coming into this game, but it's a tough divisional showdown anytime the current version of the Panthers are in town.
