Summary

Ray has the look of an ascending sack master. In 2016, his second NFL season, his snap count soared from 341 to 666 as a result of DeMarcus Ware's injuries. With Ware now retired, Ray is penciled in for an even heftier compliment of snaps. But that upside may be overstated. Like late-career Ware, Ray is primarily a situational rusher with a clear ceiling for snaps. Consider that Ware, a future first-ballot Hall of Famer still in excellent form, never topped 737 snaps in a season in Denver. Ray's 8.5 sacks from 2016 may be closer to his ceiling than many think, and there are many young, gifted pass rushers available leaguewide with higher upside. Ray is well worth a draft pick in leagues that prioritize sacks heavily, but don't lose your head and target him as though 12+ sacks are a formality. (May 22)
