Week 11: at Carolina Panthers

All TE vs CAR

FBG says: Tough matchup. Matt Ryan has been one of football's most prolific passers here in 2019, topping 300 yards in 6 of his 7 full games. He hasn't been particularly efficient of late, though, posting just 5.5 yards per attempt over his last 2 games. Overall, it's fair to lower the Falcons' ceiling projections a bit, especially with injuries at the skill positions. Ryan always projects to strong volume, but his dynamic receiving corps takes a hit with Austin Hooper's multi-week injury. Hooper would make for a great mismatch against the Panthers, who struggle mightily with tight ends. Julio Jones has averaged 88 yards per game on the year, and he's topped 75 in 4 straight. Yet he hasn't found the end zone since Week 3 - he's just not much of a red-zone dominator - and will face tough outside coverage from James Bradberry and Donte Jackson. Perhaps Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage will have easier times in the slot. With both Hooper and running back Devonta Freeman on the shelf and Mohamed Sanu gone, Gage should be especially busy on quick-hitting throws and check-downs underneath. The Carolina pass defense has gelled beautifully here in 2019 as a borderline-shutdown unit. They've harassed and all but stifled more than their share of strong quarterbacks, including Jared Goff, Jameis Winston, Deshaun Watson, and Aaron Rodgers (a combined 6.2 yards per attempt and 2 touchdowns). They've allowed a handful of high-volume, high-yardage lines, but those numbers have been largely inflated by garbage-time play. Last Sunday, this group kept Rodgers under wraps for just 233 yards - and out of the end zone. Cornerbacks James Bradberry and Donte Jackson have both played at a Pro Bowl level, locking down most of the outside receivers they've faced. The Panthers struggle most inside, where the linebackers (even Luke Kuechly) and safeties are often liabilities up the seams. They've allowed big fantasy days to both slot receivers and tight ends, and Davante Adams had some success inside last week. At first glance, this matchup looks primed for an underneath battle, with Matt Ryan and the Falcons' slot men busy on quick-hitting throws.
