Week 3: vs Oakland Raiders

All RB vs OAK

FBG says: Great matchup. Suddenly, the Miami run game is humming along - and not all due to huge, stat-bending runs by Kenyan Drake. Rather, this is becoming a strong, consistent unit that's opening holes, and Adam Gase's backfield rotation is paying big dividends. The Dolphins are going fairly option-heavy here in 2018, which suits their personnel. Drake and Frank Gore are sharing the offense and keeping each other fresh, an essential task as Drake works best as a part-timer (he's never topped 133 rushes in a season, college or pro). And even with Josh Sitton lost for the year, the line has taken a noticeable step forward. Sitton's left guard replacement, Ted Larsen, is adept at sealing creases, and Drake has the quickness and foot-speed to take advantage. Production may be hard to pinpoint from this unit, but it's looking situationally strong and dynamic in any matchup. The loss of Khalil Mack wasn't just a death sentence for the Raiders pass rush. It also robbed them of virtually all of their front-seven explosiveness, leaving little by way of reinforcement. With Mack gone (and nose tackle Justin Ellis on injured reserve), this unit now depends on a bevy of lackluster linemen and shaky, plodding linebackers that struggle mightily against the run. The Raiders rely heavily on retread nose tackle Clinton McDonald to anchor up the middle, and he's an inconsistent player at best. And the linebackers look thoroughly subpar, with only ex-Lion Tahir Whitehead showing up thus far in 2018. Simply put, there are no real elements of a run defense in place here, and there are few running games that can't trample this unit week-to-week. Todd Gurley's Week 1 eruption was forgivable, but Phillip Lindsay's Week 2 field day was unsettling.
