Recent Game Summaries

2017 Week 16 vs NYJ (8 / 9 / 0 rush, 1 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

Oliver, like starter Melvin Gordon, struggled to produce with most of his rushing attempts against the Jets. Oliver did flash on one of his carries, making a strong move in the backfield to turn a loss into a three-yard gain. Oliver may see and expanded opportunity in Week 17 with Melvin Gordon's status uncertain after an ankle injury late in Week 16.

2017 Week 8 vs NE (3 / 3 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

Oliver, who has a healthy scratch last week after missing the previous two weeks with a hamstring issue, saw a short yardage carry on 3rd and 1 that he converted for the first down. He had another run later in the half that he tried stretching out wide for the first down, but he was generally unimpressive with just three carries for three yards.

2017 Week 4 vs PHI (2 / 1 / 0 rush, 1 / 1 / 2 / 0 rec)

Oliver totaled just three yards on his three touches from scrimmage, with a long gain of six yards. That 6-yard run actually looked good, as he made a nice cutback against the grain to pick up some yardage up the middle. But those looking to handcuff Melvin Gordon's backup also witnessed Austin Ekeler getting three touches of his own (including several in key moments) while totaling 58 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown scamper in the second half.

2017 Week 3 vs KC (8 / 16 / 0 rush, 6 / 4 / 18 / 0 rec)

With Melvin Gordon hobbled coming in, it was thought that Oliver might get more work than usual. When Gordon left the game after halftime and again for good in the fourth quarter, that speculation became a reality. Oliver saw 12 total touches to 17 for Gordon, but unfortunately he didn't do much with those opportunities. And he didn't inspire confidence in fantasy owners that he would be a reasonably effective fill-in if Gordon is forced to miss any time. There were a lot of checkdowns to Oliver out of the backfield. And while he runs quickly and keeps a low center of gravity, there just wasn't enough open space to really do much damage. His longest run went for just six yards, and his other seven carries totaled just ten yards in all.

2017 Week 2 vs MIA (3 / 31 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

Despite just three rushing attempts, Oliver was actually the leading rusher in the game for Los Angeles. He came on in relief of Melvin Gordon midway through the second quarter to give Gordon a breather. He managed to take an inside handoff for 26 yards up the middle, complete with a little bit of a shake of the defender to pick up the last ten or so. Oliver's other two carries resulted in five yards, and Gordon saw sixteen overall touches to Oliver's three.

2017 Week 1 vs DEN (4 / 10 / 0 rush, 1 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

Oliver came on early in the second quarter, taking a couple of handoffs for a total of eight yards. Starter Melvin Gordon came back on for the third down run, then exited immediately after converting. Oliver got another couple of handoffs on the next set of downs, but that was the extent of his work. If this game is any indication, it appears that Gordon is a true three-down back, with Oliver and Austin Ekeler merely providing relief work.
