Week 7: vs Baltimore Ravens
All WR vs BAL
Mark and Joe say: Neutral matchup. Well, let's put it this way - Ryan Fitzpatrick got nothing going for the first 52 minutes of the game at Arizona (16/31 for 174 yards passing, zero TDs and one interception), so the Jets gave Geno Smith a shot for the final eight minutes of the 3-28 loss, and got a fumble that cost them a down and eight yards, an interception thrown, and 4/6 for 31 yards passing. After the game, head coach Todd Bowles said 'Fitz will be back next week. The game was 28-3. There was eight minutes left in the game. We weren't doing anything else. I just wanted to get (QB Geno Smith) some reps.' Brandon Marshall (six targets for 3/70/0) and Charone Peake (10 for 5/43/0) wre the most targeted Jets last week, while Quincy Enunwa (five for 3/42/0) and Robby Anderson (six for 4/24/0) all helped out in Eric Deckers' continuing absence (IR, hip surgery completed, shoulder surgery scheduled). Later in the week, coach Bowles started walking back the strong statement that Fitzgerald would be back as the starter. On Wednesday, news came down that Geno Smith would be the starter this week.
The Ravens' pass defense got shredded by a resurgent Odell Beckham Jr. (10 targets for 8/222/2) and Eli Manning (32/46 for 397 net yards passing, three TDs and two interceptions thrown, with one sack taken for -6 yards) last weekend, after Kirk Cousins managed 29/41 for 250 net yards passing, one TD and one interception thrown, with one sack taken for -10 yards two weeks ago. Baltimore is now ranked ninth in the league averaging 225.2 net yards allowed per game, with 12 passing scores allowed, vs. eight interceptions (third in the NFL) and 11 sacks (tied for 19th) generated. From Week Four to Week Six of the 2016 season (over the last three weeks), Baltimore has averaged 23.9 fantasy points allowed per game to opposing quarterbacks (eighth-most in the NFL); and 35.5 fantasy points per game allowed to wide receivers (second-most); with 4.7 fantasy points given up per game to tight ends (sixth-least).
The Jets need a spark in this phase of the game, while the Ravens are reeling from a spanking from the Giants - this looks like a neutral matchup to us. Also note, Terrell Suggs tore a biceps last week and may not play in this game, degrading the Ravens' pass rush/linebacking corps.
