FBG says: Neutral matchup. Quarterback Brandon Allen was serviceable in his Week 9 NFL debut with the Broncos, leading this passing offense to 193 yards and two touchdowns while committing no turnovers. Allen showed he is capable of making some difficult throws, including fitting a few balls into tight windows to move the chains as he helped lead the Broncos to a win. Coming off the bye in Week 10, Allen will remain the starter at least until fellow rookie Drew Lock possibly returns from injury in Week 13 or later. The volume for Courtland Sutton hasn't significantly increased in two games since Emmanuel Sanders' departure, but he remains relatively productive with 14 targets and 128 receiving yards over his past two games, including a touchdown last week. Tight end Noah Fant is seeing an uptick in usage since Sanders has left though, as he led the team with eight targets in Week 8 followed by leading the team in receiving yards with 115 and a touchdown from three receptions in his last game. Some terrible stat lines earlier in the season are tough to ignore, but Fant looks to be catching on and is clearly in the vision of Brandon Allen as a viable receiving option in the middle of the field.
The Vikings pass defense has certainly struggled throughout the season, particularly against wide receivers as they are giving up the third-most fantasy points per game (PPR scoring) to the position. Five wide receivers have exceeded 90 yards against the Vikings over the past four weeks, scoring eight touchdowns over that span. Play from Xavier Rhodes has certainly dropped off this season as Courtland Sutton should have minimal issues with his coverage this week. Quarterbacks are still facing the pressure from this defensive (29 sacks, seventh-most) while the Vikings secondary has nabbed at least one interception in seven of nine games this season. The Minnesota pass rush should give this Broncos offensive line fits while their linebackers have covered running backs well, allowing just one running back to finish with more than 34 receiving yards this season. Tight end Noah Fant also has a difficult individual matchup, as Harrison Smith should pick him up in coverage downfield and has played a big part in why the Vikings have yet to allow a receiving touchdown to tight ends this season. With the short passes looking to be a challenge, Brandon Allen will likely have to beat this defense deep to find success this week.
