Week 7: vs Arizona Cardinals
All QB vs ARI
FBG says: Good matchup. Jared Goff and the Rams had a tough time through the air last week against one of the league's top pass defenses in Jacksonville. Goff completed only 52.4% of his 21 pass attempts for 124 yards and one touchdown. Both the passing yards and attempts were season-lows as the Rams smartly ran their offense through Todd Gurley due to the tough matchup through the air. Goff has now had two very tough matchups in a row, amassing only one touchdown to two interceptions in his past two games after starting hot with a six-to-one touchdown to interception ratio through his first three games. It is still painfully apparent that Goff and Sammy Watkins are far from on the same page, as Watkins was only targeted four times here, hauling in one for 11 yards. Robert Woods led the team in receiving as he finished with five receptions for 70 yards. Cooper Kupp only managed two receptions for 35 yards, while tight end Tyler Higbee fell off the map from his big outing in Week 5, failing to gain a single this past week as he hauled in one reception for no gain.
The Cardinals secondary was taken advantage of late in the game last week as they contributed to allowing 33 points from the Buccaneers in the second half, almost leading to a Buccaneers comeback win. This secondary has been relatively overrated all year long as they have really struggled at cornerback outside of Patrick Peterson. Both Justin Bethel and Tyrann Mathieu have struggled mightily, both allowing some of the highest yards per route run in the league. While Patrick Peterson has performed admirably this year, he has been dealing with a quadriceps injury that was re-aggravated last week as he was forced to leave in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals have also struggled in rushing the passer this year as they have only notched 11 sacks, tied for fourth lowest in the league. Look for Sammy Watkins to have a great chance at a bounce-back game here as he should draw coverage from Justin Bethel, while Robert Woods is the likely candidate for drawing Patrick Peterson.
