News you need to know
From Mark Wimer's Monday injury report (Mon Sep 15): Moreno dislocated his elbow on Sunday and also may have suffered a fracture - the initial time frame for his return is said to be 4-8 weeks, depending on the results of further evaluations. Moreno will have an MRI on Monday to begin the further evaluations.
From Mark Wimer's Monday injury report (Sun Sep 14): Moreno suffered an elbow injury that appeared to be very serious during the game on Sunday - he's out indefinitely. Further evaluations are ongoing.
From the upgrade/downgrade report (Mon Sep 15): Moreno suffered a dislocated elbow and will be out for at least 4 weeks, if not significantly longer. He might worth holding onto in leagues with 20 or more roster spots, but in short bench leagues, he is a questionable hold to wait for his return. Tyler Eifert ended up on IR-recall (at least 8 weeks) with a similar injury.
General News (Fri Sep 19): is out for this weekend's game.
General News (Thu Sep 18): did not practice on Thursday.
General News (Wed Sep 17): did not practice on Wednesday.
General News (Tue Sep 16): suffered a dislocated elbow and will miss 4-8 weeks.
Week 3: vs Kansas City Chiefs
Mark and Joe say: Neutral matchup. Miami lost Knowshon Moreno for the foreseeable future in Week 2 - he suffered an ugly dislocation of his left elbow and will be out 4-8 weeks as a result. Lamar Miller ran for 11/46/0 and added 2/7/0 receiving in the absence of Moreno last week - he figures to be the lead back for Miami going forwards (until Moreno returns). Daniel Thomas was picked up off the scrap heap after Moreno's injury, but we don't see him as much of a threat to Miller's touches at this point in time. The Chiefs rush D averages 125.0 yards rushing allowed per game (23rd in the NFL), but has zero rushing scores handed out to date. Denver was held to 19/88/0 rushing last week, while Tennessee piled up 38/162/0 rushing by Shonn Greene and company in Week 1. This unit has been up and down to start the season. On balance, this looks like a neutral matchup between struggling units to us.

2014 Week 1 vs NE (24 / 134 / 1 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
After last season, can Moreno's performance against the Patriots in Week 1 be called a breakout? Maybe not, but one thing's for sure: 2013 Knowshon Moreno wasn't a complete fabrication of a Peyton Manning offense. Who knows what kicked Moreno in the backside two useless seasons after being a first-round pick, but he looks like a different player dating back to the 2012 playoff run. Upon entering the game at the start of Miami's second series, the Dolphins had a confidence when running the ball which almost looked scary. Branden Albert and Samson Satele were dominant in their Dolphins debuts, but Moreno's running style is in another class. Well-designed zone-reads and hesitation runs kept the New England defense on their feet and allowed Moreno to do what he does best. He sets up blockers and then hits the hole, which makes up for his lack of burst. Of his 24 rushes, 13 were 5+ yards, and he often scampered untouched running through the gaping holes. Additionally, though, Moreno showed his tackle breaking chops, forcing six missed tackles overall. Specifically, at the goal-line on his TD run, Moreno was hit at the 3 or 4 yard line, stayed upright and powered his way into the end zone. The red-zone usage is obviously something to watch though. Early on, Miller caught the TD, which more came down to the RB rotation. Later in the game though, Moreno was replaced in the red-zone, and the Dolphins drive proceeded to stall. Then, in the 4th quarter, he converted from a few yards out. Like the RB rotation as a whole, it's a muddy situation right now, but Moreno certainly laid claim to the job on Sunday.
2014 Week 2 vs BUF (1 / 4 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
It was an unfortunate afternoon for Knowshon Moreno on Sunday, as he was forced from the action just one carry into his afternoon. It was a typical tough Moreno run for a first down, but he came down awkwardly on his elbow and was in immediate pain. It's been diagnosed as a dislocated elbow, with a caveat that there could be a fracture as well. His timetable is a fairly wide 4-8 weeks, so it's certainly a situation to monitor. It was obvious he was the best pure runner on the team and a perfect fit for the scheme. It'll be worth watching how quickly he rehabs, as he's certain to be dropped in a number of leagues. He'll be well worth stashing if he can beat his timetable and make it back to the field sometime in maybe late October.
Latest NewsDolphins | Knowshon Moreno out as expected (Fri Sep 19, 08:33 PM) - As expected, Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) did not practice Friday, Sept. 19, and is out for the Week 3 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. link to story Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno has target date (Thu Sep 18, 11:23 PM) - Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) has been telling teammates that he hopes to return after the team's Week 5 bye. Our View: That's all nice and well, but we'll believe it when we see it. If healthy, Moreno is the best back on the roster and at least a RB2 with upside. We'll see when he can come back...and we'll see if he can stay healthy, something that's always been a problem for him.
link to story Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno doesn't practice (Thu Sep 18, 05:17 PM) - Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) did not practice Thursday, Sept. 18. Our View: In other news, water is wet. Moreno suffered an elbow injury in Week 2 and he's going to miss some time because of it. He could be out at least four weeks, but it could be as many as eight weeks depending on his rehab.
link to story Dolphins | Daniel Thomas re-signs (Mon Sep 15, 11:17 AM) - The Miami Dolphins re-signed RB Daniel Thomas to an undisclosed deal Monday, Sept. 15. Our View: Zero surprise here. Knowshon Moreno could miss an extended period of time with an elbow injury, and Thomas makes for a smart move. Lamar Miller could just get a larger role going forward. Don't expect Thomas to step into the Moreno role and get a large number of touches. Thomas is just veteran insurance.
link to story Dolphins | Knowshon Moreno could miss more time (Mon Sep 15, 02:56 AM) - Clarifying a previous item, Miami Dolphins RB Knowshon Moreno (elbow) will miss at least four weeks, but it could be as many as eight weeks depending on his rehab. Our View: Moreno runs with little to no regard for his personal safety. Fans and teammates love his heart, passion and desire, but that playing style leads to plenty of injuries. Moreno has rarely made it through an extended period of time without getting banged up to varying degrees.
