Mitchell has been a solid contributor for the Steelers since joining the team in 2014. Like most free safeties in the recent history of the franchise however, he has posted only modest tackle numbers. In 2015 Mitchell made up for being light in the tackle column (58 solo) by adding 7 turnovers and 9 passes defended. The big plays boosted his fantasy point total into the top twenty for the first time in his career. In 2016 the tackle numbers were about the same at 55 solos, while the big plays all but went away. With only 2 takeaways Mitchell slid well down the final ranking. Like most players who depend on big plays to pad their scores, Mitchell is a wildcard both week to week and year to year. The Steelers have the players in place up front to put pressure on the quarterback which should create more opportunity for the secondary. Mitchell could bounce back strong but even if he does week to week inconsistency will be an issue. Count on him as no more than depth in most situations. (May 25)
