Week 5: vs Pittsburgh Steelers
All TE vs PIT
Mark and Joe say: Tough matchup. Philip Rivers has thrown for more passing yards than any other NFL quarterback over the first 1/4 of the season, slinging 100/141 for 1,249 passing yards, eight TDs and four interceptions - last week, he threw 23/38 for 358 yards passing, three TDs and zero interceptions against the Browns. Keenan Allen (seven targets for 4/72/1 receiving), Ladarius Green (six for 4/53/1), and John Phillips (one for 1/1/1) handled the TDs for Rivers, while Danny Woodhead (four for 4/84/0) and Dontrelle Inman (five for 3/88/0) also made some big plays for Rivers. It's all good in this phase of the game, and now this week tight end Antonio Gates returns to the fold after serving his four-game suspension - the rich just get richer in San Diego, friends.
Joe Flacco was sacked five times last week for -21 yards, ending the night at 21/34 for 165 net yards passing, one TD and one interceptions thrown. Two weeks ago, Pittsburgh allowed 19/29 for 187 net passing yards, zero TDs and one interception to Nick Foles and company. To date, the Steelers are 13th in the NFL averaging 232.8 net passing yards allowed per game, with seven passing scores handed out vs. two interceptions (tied for 21st in the NFL) and an impressive 14 sacks (fourth in the league) generated to date.
This is a tough matchup for the Chargers even though they are at home in Qualcomm Stadium.
