Week 14: at Carolina Panthers
All TE vs CAR
Mark and Joe say: Neutral matchup. Philip Rivers keeps on firing his bullets, interceptions coming down as often as TDs of late (he has thrown eight TDs and seven interceptions in the last three weeks) - against the Buccaneers last Sunday, he pitched 15/26 for 225 yards passing, two TDs and two interceptions. Five different receivers had multiple receptions: Melvin Gordon led the team with six targets for 4/54/0 receiving; Dontrelle Inman had five for 2/49/1; Tyrell Williams saw four for 2/47/1; Antonio Gates handled four for 4/37/0; and Travis Benjamin put up 2/24/0 receiving out of four chances. Rivers uses all the weapons on the field on any given Sunday.
The Panthers' pass defense is ranked 30th in the NFL allowing 276.8 net yards per game, and has coughed up 22 passing scores vs. 12 interceptions (tied for fifth in the NFL) and 34 sacks generated (second in the NFL). The Panthers bleed yards, but they generate pressure and turnovers (an issue for Rivers, who has 14 interceptions thrown over 12 games, and has taken 28 sacks with 75 other hits on the quarterback over 12 games). Russell Wilson and company took three sacks for -21 yards last week, but still pitched 28/39 for 294 yards passing, one TD and one interception. From Week 10 to Week 13 of the 2016 season (over the last four weeks, but includes 10 teams on bye during that time span - each team has at least three games played in the last four weeks), Carolina has averaged 18.4 fantasy points allowed per game to opposing quarterbacks (13th-least in the NFL); and 23.9 fantasy points per game allowed to wide receivers (17th); with 9.4 fantasy points given up per game to tight ends (ninth-most).
This looks like a neutral matchup for the visiting Chargers.
