Week 7: at Chicago Bears

All RB vs CHI

FBG says: Tough matchup. The Saints have constructed their offensive attack around grinding ball control, and it's grown into one of football's best. That's why Alvin Kamara's Week 7 availability is so crucial; he's currently questionable with an ankle sprain and doesn't sound optimistic about his status. Kamara has been not only his dynamic self, but also remarkably consistent, recording 62+ yards in 4 of 6 games thus far. His efficiency has been a bit off, though, with just 3.8 per rush since Week 2. If he sits, or again plays limited snaps, Latavius Murray will take on instant must-play status. Murray hasn't seen Mark Ingram's typical opportunity this year, but stepped in last week for 44 yards on 8 carries. He certainly looked spry on a 42-yard touchdown reception that was nullified by a penalty. Murray's north-south style fits nicely behind the Saints' elite front line, which is packed to the gills with strong run-blockers. Guards Andrus Peat and Larry Warford are maulers on the interior, where Murray found most of his Week 6 success. But he'll also see work on the edges, especially if Kamara's open-field role is vacated. Perhaps the biggest matchup surprise of the young season came in Week 5, when the Bears' clamp-down run defense was torn apart in London. Raiders running backs combined for 157 yards and 3 touchdowns in the upset win. They were the first Bears opponent to total more than 90 yards, and Josh Jacobs was the first lead runner to average more than 3.0 yards per carry. Jacobs' success on cutbacks and outside bounces could provide a blueprint, but this remains a dominant unit that matches up well with the Saints' mauling offensive line. Nose tackle Eddie Goldman has grown into a true mismatch inside, consistently occupying blockers and making stops of his own. Behind him, linebackers Khalil Mack, Roquan Smith, and Danny Trevathan are all athletic playmakers in pursuit. The biggest question for the Bears is that they are without Akiem Hicks who was an integral part of this run-defense, and without him will they be able to continue the elite play they had earlier this season.
