Week 9: vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Mark and Joe say: Good matchup. Here is a tasty matchup for Ben Tate and company - Tampa Bay is 23rd in the NFL averaging 123.9 rushing yards allowed per game, with seven rushing scores given out to date. Minnesota averaged 4.4 yards per carry at Tampa last week (22/97/0), while the Ravens posted 35/169/1 (4.8 yards per carry) in their 48-17 drubbing of Tampa at Tampa back in Week 6. In more good news, note that this game is at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland. Ben Tate remains the lead back for the Browns, with the caveat that he has been decreasingly productive over the past three weeks, with 56/140/3 rushing and 2/6/0 receiving (2.5 yards per rush and 3.0 yards per reception). Tate posted 15/26/1 rushing and 1/8/0 receiving vs. Oakland last week; and had 16/36/0 rushing with 1/-2/0 receiving at Jacksonville two weeks back. Folks, these are teams that Tate should have whaled on, but he couldn't drop the hammer. Isaiah Crowell, who has been the most productive back on a per-carry basis over the past three games (19/96/1 rushing with 2/13/0 receiving, 5.05 yards per carry and 6.5 per reception) was reduced to a mere 1/1/0 rushing and 1/8/0 receiving vs. Oakland, while formerly-benched Terrance West handled 7/11/0 rushing (a 'scintillating' 1.6 yards per carry) and 1/10/0 receiving last week. The mix of backs for the Browns is obviously in flux entering the second half of the season. It remains to be seen which back will grab the brass ring here and come to the fore (right now, Tate has been given ample opportunity but isn't getting the job done). The Browns' trio of backs has a good matchup here, but there are reasons to be wary of investing in any single person this week, as you see above.
