WR Lance Long - Free Agent
|5-11, 186||Born: 5-4-1985||College: Mississippi State||Drafted: ---|
2009 Week 7 vs SD (5 / 2 / 12 / 0 rec)
Long was compared to Wes Welker by the announcers, mostly because he's short and white, but one can see a resemblance to their games. Long seems a bit scatterbrained out on the field, bouncing all over the place like a pinball, but he's actually pretty well under control. His big contributions to this game weren't in his results, but in what he almost did. He dropped a deep ball on which he was interfered with by S Eric Weddle but no call was made. And he later nearly brought in a great catch on a dive into the end zone, but the ball hit the ground at the last moment and popped out. Later, he was drilled by Tim Dobbins after a short catch and was down on the ground momentarily. He got up a bit woozy with what looked like a concussion. He won't put up huge stats in this offense, but he can fill a role in the slot with his skill set.
2009 Week 9 vs JAX (11 / 8 / 74 / 0 rec)
Long emerged as the Welker-esque underneath quick passing outlet for Cassel in this game. He sat down in spots close to the line of scrimmage and made sure-handed catches. Long showed no fear working the middle, and he also helped out Cassel by getting open on a broken play that ended up being his best gain of the day. Long made a good leaping catch took a hit to bring the ball in, and he also got targets in the red zone and end zone. While the Chiefs are trying to establish order on offense, expect Cassel to lean on Long, making Long a decent sleeper in PPR leagues.
2009 Week 10 vs OAK (5 / 2 / 18 / 0 rec)
Long came back to earth this week because Matt Cassel was throwing more downfield. He can be dropped in all but the deepest of leagues.
2009 Week 11 vs PIT (3 / 2 / 37 / 0 rec)
Long made an awesome 30 yard catch over the middle in the fourth quarter. It was only his second target, though, so he can't exactly be relied on for fantasy purposes just yet.
2009 Week 12 vs SD (4 / 2 / 15 / 0 rec)
Long was never able to get much separation from the defenders, and his name was barely called. He ended up catching just two balls, one that went for nine yards and one for six.
2009 Week 13 vs DEN (8 / 2 / 28 / 0 rec)
Long was open underneath against the Broncos but Matt Cassel didn't look his way often. Long was able to get some garbage time yardage when Brodie Croyle was in the game and the Broncos were playing prevent defense.
