Week 16: vs San Diego Chargers

Mark and Joe say: Neutral matchup. Colin Kaepernick has posted 11/19 for 141 yards passing, zero TDs and zero interceptions with six sacks taken for -36 yards (and 9/46/0 rushing) at Seattle, after 18/33 for 174 yards, one TD and two interceptions thrown, with five sacks taken for -23 yards (with 3/26/0 rushing) at Oakland two weeks ago. With such anemic passing numbers, none of the receivers have been high-impact fantasy options, though Michael Crabtree (17 targets for 12/75/0 receiving) and Anquan Boldin (13 for 6/77/0) are at least drawing a satisfactory number of targets of late. The Chargers' pass D averages 228.2 net passing yards allowed per game (ninth in the NFL), with 23 passing scores given out vs. seven interceptions (27th in hte NFL) and just 20 sacks (29th) generated to date. An ailing Peyton Manning posted 14/22 for 226 net yards, one TD and zero interceptions thrown last week (one sack taken for -7 yards); Tom Brady ripped this group for 28/44 yielding 310 net yards, two TDs and one interception thrown two weeks ago (also with one sack taken for -7 yards). This looks like a neutral matchup for the faltering 49ers. With very little in the way of running backs likely healthy for this contest, Kaepernick will have to throw it fairly often, but the results of this are questionable given the current state of affairs in San Francisco.

Recent Game Summaries

2014 Week 13 vs SEA (6 / 1 / 6 / 0 rec)

Lloyd saw a major increase in targets but only one of the balls Kaepernick threw to him was even catchable. The 49ers were using Lloyd as their deep target, but he had a defender in his pocket each time he went deep.

2014 Week 15 vs SEA (2 / 1 / 12 / 0 rec)

Lloyd's only grab came on a short cross where he beat his man across the field and then to the marker to pick up 12 yards and a first down.

49ers | Quinton Patton on active list (Sun Dec 7, 05:24 PM) - San Francisco 49ers WR Quinton Patton was active for the first time this season in Week 14 against the Oakland Raiders, replacing WR Brandon Lloyd (quadriceps). Lloyd was listed a probable, though, so it appears that Patton moves up due to Lloyd's struggles and not injury.
