FBG says: Good matchup. What is there to say about Patrick Mahomes that has not already been said at this point. Mahomes is extremely talented with a cannon for an arm and is one of the great breakout stories of 2018. The real question is whether can keep this up and while the answer to that question is most certainly no as he is not going to throw for 80 touchdowns this season, he can continue to throw for the yardage that we've seen so far. It was a tremendous sign of growth for the quarterback to involve Travis Kelce which he has not historically thrown to tight ends showing he is much more than just the air raid offense quarterback that we saw in college. The only critique for the Chiefs is that Kareem Hunt who had 53 receptions in 2017 only has one reception thus far this season which if they can get Hunt the ball in space will only add to their value as a passing offense.
The 49ers are a secondary that was one of the worst in 2017 and while they allowed 347 yards and three touchdowns to the Lions and Matthew Stafford, most of this was in the second half as the Lions attempted to make a ferocious comeback. The issue for the 49ers continues to be K'Waun Williams who struggled out of the slot in 2017 and is back once again in the slot for the 49ers in 2018 and will face one of the elite wide receivers in football in Tyreek Hill quite often in this game. This will also be a test for the 49ers safeties as they have not faced a tight end that is close to Kelce's caliber and while they have done a great job shutting down tight ends will be forced to face a tough test this week.
