Matt Waldman's Rookie Scouting Portfolio ranked Kelly as his No. 2 quarterback in 2017 on the basis of talent, recommending Kelly as a late-round dynasty pick with high upside. Waldman noted Kelly's arm, pocket presence, excellent timing, and underrated athletic ability give Kelly a chance to become a good NFL starter if he could get a year to completely rehab his body from a hernia surgery as a junior while proving he's mature enough to handle the responsibilities of a pro. So far, so good.

Summary

Chad Kelly was 'Mr. Irrelevant' in the 2017 NFL draft. As the final pick of the draft, Kelly has plenty of motivation to prove doubters wrong - and the first-round tools to do just that. Kelly fell in the draft last year due to multiple injuries and off-field incidents. He's known to be a bit of a hothead and that has gotten him off track during his college career at Clemson and Ole Miss. If healthy and focused, Kelly is a tremendous competitor who wants to strike first and keep going after an opponent with his arm. He's got plenty of swagger and confidence in his ability, and Kelly has lost 40 pounds over the last year to reshape his body and get ready to prove himself. He didn't play last year for the Broncos as he recovered from injury, but Kelly will compete in 2018 with Paxton Lynch to be the backup to Case Keenum. (May 16)
