Summary

Kamara proved that his strong RB1 value wasn't based only on unsustainable efficiency last year. He was a terrific scorer and pass catcher as usual, but also played the bell cow role when Mark Ingram was out. Latavius Murray was added to replace Ingram, who left for Baltimore in free agency, and he's arguably not quite at Ingram's level, so this swap can only be seen as a plus for Kamara. The pass offense will have a deeper and more developed set of targets this year, which could be a small negative for him, but Kamara is also getting into his prime, turning 24 this year, so that progression in his career arc alone could help him surpass previous production levels. He's worth the premium pick it will take to land him. (May 1)

Saints | Alvin Kamara to remain on 'pitch count' (Sat Aug 10, 07:27 PM) - New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara is expected to approach the 61 percent of snaps he played over the final 12 games of last season after Mark Ingram returned from suspension as opposed to the 82 percent of snaps he saw in the first four games, according to comments made by head coach Sean Payton.'It will be similar to what we've been seeing. We've been pleased with the balance we've had with him. We think it's been a good count. ... Look, is one player taking exactly Mark Ingram's reps? I can't tell you that right now. And yet I think there's that presumption that Alvin's going to get more. And I think our pitch count and how we've played and utilized him has been really good,' Payton said.

Our View: Kamara had a huge workload when Mark Ingram was out last year, so it was possible that he would get more work than he did with Ingram if the team didn't trust Murray to the extent they liked Ingram. Kamara is still worth a top five pick in drafts, but this throws cold water on the case to take him #1.
