Summary

Detroit traded up near the top of the second round of the draft to select Johnson following an extremely productive career at Auburn. As a rookie, he was one of the few bright spots for the 2018 Lions offense. Johnson averaged a whopping 5.4 yards per carry and caught 32 passes in 10 games. The 5.4 YPC was especially impressive considering the Lions second-leading rusher, LeGarrette Blount, averaged exactly half that at just 2.7 YPC. Johnson has an impressive combination of elusiveness, toughness, and receiving ability and flashed serious potential in his rookie season. Johnson was not able to make it through the season, landing on injured reserve and missing six games total with a knee injury. He has proven his toughness, fighting through nagging injuries in the past. However, he does have a relatively long injury history going back to high school. Johnson is clearly the most talented back on the Lions roster and with the team desperate to establish a consistent ground game for the first time in years, he could be in for a heavy workload as long as he can prove he is capable of handling it. Lions | Kerryon Johnson a threat for 60 catches? (Thu Jun 13, 05:47 PM) - Detroit Lions RB Kerryon Johnson finished with 32 catches in 10 games as a rookie in 2018, and the Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett could see him doubling that production in 2019 if the team decides they don't need to take Johnson off the field on third down.

Our View: Johnson caught 32 passes as a rookie in 2018...in just 10 games. Catching 45 or more passes this season is not an outlandish projection for the second-year back. Johnson has a current ADP of RB19 (3.12) in 12-team PPR leagues.
