Recent Game Summaries
2019 Week 14 vs NYJ (8 / 5 / 68 / 0 rec - 11.8 points, $4100)
With the list of injured Dolphins receivers growing, Hurns continues to see more opportunities. He set season highs in targets, receptions, and yards this week after Parker went down with a concussion. His longest catch went for 17 yards and he averaged 13.6 yards per catch this week. Hurns saw some of his targets go to Isaiah Ford this week and it will be interesting to see their split next week if Parker does not clear concussion protocol. Hurns has 2 touchdowns on the year and would be the best receiver standing on the team if Parker misses time. He will have a great matchup against the Giants next week and would be in line to see even more targets.
2019 Week 13 vs PHI (4 / 3 / 33 / 0 rec - 6.3 points, $4000)
It was not the most productive game for Hurns, but his 3 catches did help set up key moments in the game for other players to score. Hurns caught 3 of his 4 targets and averaged 11 yards per catch. He has soaked up some of the targets that would have gone to Jakeem Grant and Preston Williams before they were lost to injury. He continues to fill the same role that Kenny Stills had a year ago and always has the chance to break a long play. He did not get the box scoring garbage time touchdown at the end of the game this week, but he continues to be effective in this offense. Hurns should have a good chance to do some damage in the upcoming weeks with games against the Jets, Giants, and Bengals on the schedule.
2019 Week 12 vs CLE (7 / 4 / 42 / 1 rec - 14.2 points, $3300)
With 3 of the top 4 receiving options in the offense injured, Hurns got a chance to step up and make plays this week. His only real competition seems to be Parker right now and he is slipping into the Kenny Stills role from a year ago. Hurns caught 4 of his 7 targets for 42 yards and seemingly saved his day at the end of the game with a garbage time 17-yard touchdown. Hurns ran a comeback route short of the goal line but then improvised when he saw Fitzpatrick scrambling for his life. As he worked towards the end zone, his man in coverage collided with another defender and fell to the ground. That left Hurns wide open in the corner of the end zone for an easy pitch and catch score. It helped salvage what was a very disappointing day receiving and should help bring more targets his way for the rest of the season.
2019 Week 11 vs BUF (6 / 4 / 53 / 0 rec - 8.3 points, $3200)
It was difficult for Hurns to find room in this offense behind Parker, Williams, and Grant but he has done just that in the past few weeks. With Williams done for the season, Hurns has stepped up and seen the biggest jump in playing time. He caught 4 of his 6 targets this week and was second on the team with his 53 receiving yards. Unfortunately, he made one big mistake and fumbled the ball after making a 20-yard catch across the middle. The Dolphins had just recovered an onside kick and were trying to take a shot down the field. The play was originally ruled incomplete, but upon further review it was ruled a fumble and clear recovery by Buffalo. It killed what could have been a big turning point in the game for Miami and could hurt his playing time going forward after Jakeem Grant stepped up this week.
2019 Week 10 vs IND (4 / 2 / 32 / 0 rec - 5.2 points, $3000)
One of the players expected to benefit from Williams getting hurt the most is Hurns. He was targeted 4 times this week and caught half of those balls for 32 yards. His longest catch went for 18 yards and he tied for the third most targeted player in the offense. There has been a lot of competition for targets in the Miami offense with Jakeem Grant and Albert Wilson making their way back into the lineup, but Hurns should see a bump the rest of the season with Williams out.
2019 Week 8 vs PIT (1 / 1 / 12 / 1 rec - 8.2 points, $3000)
Hurns looked like he was going to be the odd man out with Jakeem Grant, Albert Wilson, DeVante Parker, and Preston Williams getting the majority of the looks. This week he was able to make the most of his lone reception and take it 12 yards in for a touchdown. Fitzpatrick got the ball to Hurns in the seam short of the first down marker and Hurns put his shoulder down, protected the ball, and forced himself into the end zone. The Steelers seemed more interested in trying to strip the ball and worked to hold Hurns up rather than tackle him to the ground. Hurns powered it in for the score and caught his lone target this week. The receiving core for the Dolphins is looking very crowded right now and it will be tough for Hurns to see consistent work.
2019 Week 2 vs NE (2 / 1 / 13 / 0 rec - 2.3 points, $3200)
With Wilson out this week, Hurns was given a bigger role in the offense. He managed to turn that into a single reception for 13 yards and was targeted only one more time for the rest of the game. Hurns will be the odd many out when Wilson returns from injury and does not hold much value.
2019 Week 1 vs BAL (3 / 1 / 22 / 0 rec - 3.2 points, $3700)
It was not a great day for anyone, but Hurns can celebrate his single big play contribution on the lone Dolphins touchdown drive this week. Fitzpatrick found Hurns 22-yards down the field after evading a tackle and rolling to his left. Hurns had settled into the gap between the corner and covering safety. The ball was a little high and Hurns had to go up and get it without any chance of coming down and running after the catch. It could have been a bigger play if the ball had been more accurate, but it helped setup the only touchdown of the day for the Dolphins.
