TE Will Heller - Detroit Lions
|6-6, 250||Born: 2-28-1981||College: Georgia Tech||Drafted: ---|
2012 Week 11 vs GB (1 / 1 / 17 / 0 rec)
Heller is primarily a blocking tight end, but he did have one nice catch and run in this game. In the second quarter, Matthew Stafford was under pressure from a corner blitz, and he scrambled to avoid the sack. Heller blocked, then released into the flat and Stafford dumped it to him for a bit 17 yard catch and run.
2012 Week 14 vs GB (4 / 4 / 21 / 0 rec)
Heller saw extensive time on the field as Brandon Pettigrew left the game very early with an ankle injury. Heller's first reception came in the second quarter on a quick curl route over the middle for five yards. His next reception came just two plays later off of play action when he caught a short pass wide open in the flat. Heller caught an eight yard pass on first and 10 underneath the coverage. He followed that up with a quick out for seven yards. Heller caught an eight yard pass over the middle on the Lions' final drive of the game.
2012 Week 15 vs ARI (3 / 2 / 18 / 0 rec)
Heller was mainly a blocker on his snaps, but did corral two receptions in the pass game. Both were as an outlet receiver on third downs. Once he picked up a first down on an out route, the other coming up well short on a third-and-long play late in the third quarter.
2012 Week 16 vs ATL (7 / 4 / 34 / 0 rec)
Will Heller started in place of the injured Brandon Pettigrew. Alike Scheffler, Heller secured three of his four catches during the second half. After halftime, Heller ran a quick slant route and secured a 10-yard gain. Heller secured his fourth and final catch on the last play of the game. Heller ran a slant route and secured a 15-yard gain.
2012 Week 17 vs CHI (2 / 2 / 29 / 1 rec)
Heller saw time in this game because Brandon Pettigrew was limited in his effectiveness due to his ankle injury. Heller caught everything that was thrown his way, including a nice 10 yard square in for a TD early in the third quarter. He also had a nice 19 yard catch and run after blocking then releasing late in the 4th quarter. He found a soft spot in the defense and Stafford dumped him the ball over the middle. Heller also had a 13 yard catch and run in the second quarter, but it was called back for a holding penalty.
2011 Week 2 vs KC (1 / 1 / 2 / 0 rec)
Released off the line in the 3rd quarter presumably in for the injured Pettigrew and caught a short ball, was immediately hit by the Chiefs for a short gain.
2011 Week 5 vs CHI (1 / 1 / 1 / 0 rec)
Mainly used as a run blocker but caught a pass early as a check down option for Stafford.
2010 Week 12 vs NE (2 / 1 / 13 / 0 rec)
Will Heller was active as the second tight end for Detroit in Week 12 as Tony Scheffler was inactive for the game. Heller caught one of his two targets for a 13-yard gain on the final drive for the Lions. Brandon Pettigrew commanded all of the attention for the tight end position from QB Shaun Hill, rendering Heller's fantasy value next to zero.
2010 Week 14 vs GB (1 / 1 / 13 / 1 rec)
Heller won't contribute often on offense, but he did a great job taking one in for the only TD of the game. His only target of the day was on the screen play from inside the 15. Good blocking got him to around the 5 and then Heller powered his own way across the goal line.
2010 Week 17 vs MIN (1 / 1 / 6 / 0 rec)
Heller's only catch came early in the second quarter. He lined up on the end of the offensive line, but released into the flat when the ball was snapped. Shaun Hill hit him on the run, but Heller was tackled immediately. His only other involvement was as an additional blocker.
2009 Week 2 vs MIN (3 / 2 / 10 / 0 rec)
Heller was more of a blocker than a pass catcher for this game. He frequently helped spring Kevin Smith for longer gains and kept Stafford from being mauled by a vicious Viking defensive line. He had a couple solid catches and missed on a long pass that was well over his head late in 3rd quarter.
2009 Week 3 vs WAS (2 / 2 / 30 / 0 rec)
Heller had one minor reception in the third quarter and a huge 24 yard reception on the Lions' final series. On second and nine, Staffford executed an excellent fake, rolled out and hit Heller for a big gain and put the Lions in position to win the game.
2009 Week 4 vs CHI (5 / 3 / 53 / 1 rec)
TE Will Heller saw several looks from Matthew Stafford in Week 4, particularly in the red zone. Heller ran down the seam and worked the intermediate depth routes, getting open a few times against Chicago and highlighted by a 14-yard touchdown over the middle of the field. Heller's numbers may have peaked against the Bears simply because he is the second tight end and a distant one at that considering that Brandon Pettigrew was targeted 10 times against Chicago. Don't chase his fantasy numbers.
2009 Week 5 vs PIT (1 / 1 / 16 / 0 rec)
Heller caught one pass in Week 5 for 16 yards as he caught a backside screen pass and made a good play to pick up extra yardage, but Detroit is not a strong enough passing game to support two tight ends. Heller is way down the target food chain and well behind Brandon Pettigrew.
2009 Week 6 vs GB (3 / 1 / 22 / 0 rec)
Heller was targeted a few times and made a nice down field catch in the 4th quarter from Drew Stanton for 22 yards. He remains the Lions 2nd TE and will only see a few targets per week.
2009 Week 11 vs CLE (2 / 2 / 12 / 1 rec)
Heller had two targets, one of which was an 11 yard touchdown pass from Stafford over the middle.
2009 Week 12 vs GB (5 / 3 / 23 / 0 rec)
Heller came into the game with TD's in his last two contests, but that streak came to a close. Heller made a couple of receptions in two TE sets for 23 yards. He does all that is asked of him honestly, seldom making a mistake.
2009 Week 13 vs CIN (4 / 1 / 11 / 0 rec)
Heller saw the bulk of the snaps and tight end targets with Brandon Pettigrew out. He often stayed in to block on passing downs but ran a number of seam and hook routes off the line. He only managed one catch on four targets. Matthew Stafford tried to hit him for a long gain on a seam route in the second half on a back shoulder pass, but the ball was thrown well behind Heller and intercepted.
2009 Week 14 vs BAL (5 / 2 / 16 / 0 rec)
Will Heller caught the first pass by Daunte Culpepper in Week 14, a 10 yard catch and run by Heller in the first quarter. Despite four more targets the rest of the game, Heller was only able to grab one of them for just a six yard gain. Heller (and all Lions tight ends) are barely worth a roster spot in most fantasy leagues.
2009 Week 15 vs ARI (3 / 2 / 8 / 0 rec)
Heller had an early catch, but he also had a drop on one Culpepper's few accurate downfield throws. The Lions miss Brandon Pettigrew.
2009 Week 16 vs SF (5 / 3 / 22 / 0 rec)
Heller filled in the primary role of Starting TE for the Lions, but had minimal impact on the game and fantasy wise. In the fourth quarter, Heller made a nice reception down the middle of the field, and turned it into a nice 16 yard gain. Aside from that though, he had only two small receptions for minimal gains. Maurice Morris was the main check-down target.
2009 Week 17 vs CHI (3 / 2 / 30 / 0 rec)
Heller had just two receptions for the game, but both were for big plays. One came early in the second quarter as Culpepper was being chased by the defense. Culpepper pulled up, threw across his body and Heller came down with the reception for a 12 yard gain. On the final play of the game, Heller was open down the middle of the field. Culpepper hit him square in the numbers and he fought his way toward the end zone. He was stopped short or the goal line, but had 17 yards on the reception and a first down.
2008 Week 3 vs STL (1 / 1 / 6 / 0 rec)
Heller caught his single target in the fourth quarter.

Will Heller was targeted one time and was not heard of again during the whole game.
2007 Week 3 vs CIN (2 / 2 / 12 / 0 rec)
He is the second TE for the Seahawks and was mainly used as a blocker.
2007 Week 7 vs STL (5 / 3 / 18 / 2 rec)
Heller is normally the number two tight end, and moved up the depth chart due to the absence of Marcus Pollard. Heller caught two touchdown passes, both on rollouts by Hasselbeck.
2007 Week 9 vs CLE (1 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)
With the absence of Marcus Pollard from the active roster, Heller was the starting tight end, though did not catch a pass.
2007 Week 10 vs SF (3 / 3 / 5 / 1 rec)
All of Heller's receptions came in the first quarter and included a one yard touchdown reception that went for Seattle's first touchdown of the game. Later on in the game, Heller was called for a holding penalty that negated a Josh Brown 46 yard field goal.
2007 Week 11 vs CHI (1 / 1 / 7 / 0 rec)
Heller caught the only pass thrown to him, and was primarily used as a blocker.
2007 Week 12 vs STL (4 / 1 / 3 / 0 rec)
Heller was actually targeted more often than starting TE Marcus Pollard, but only brought in one short reception. He was more of a dump off option than a threat in the passing game.
2007 Week 15 vs CAR (2 / 1 / 25 / 0 rec)
Heller caught one pass for 25 yards. Heller's looks were right at the end of the game. His first chance was a deep pass that was incomplete. Hasselbeck went right back to him with a short pass and Heller was able to gain 25 yards down to the Carolina 15 yard line.
2007 Week 16 vs BAL (2 / 1 / 3 / 0 rec)
Both of Heller's targets came off the arm of Seneca Wallace, who entered the game late in the fourth quarter with the victory secured.
2007 Week 17 vs ATL (3 / 1 / 9 / 0 rec)
Heller replaced Pollard in the second half, and caught one pass.
2006 Week 3 vs NYG (3 / 3 / 28 / 1 rec)

2005 Week 5 vs BUF (1 / 1 / 1 / 1 rec)
Heller was only targeted once in the game and caught a one yard touchdown pass in the back of the end zone.
