Week 3: vs New Orleans Saints

All WR vs NO

FBG says: Neutral matchup. Matt Ryan mostly faceplanted in Week 1 but enjoyed a nice bounce-back last Sunday. Taking advantage of the Panthers' shaky cornerbacks, Ryan consistently found his wideouts for chain-moving completions en route to a 23-of-28, 272-yard, 2-touchdown performance. Unlike in Week 1, he was able to spread the ball to different targets beyond Julio Jones. Jones is an all-world receiver, of course, but the Falcons tend to stall out when he's the only one seeing action. Last week, rookie Calvin Ridley made his first NFL receptions, hauling in 4 for 64 and 1 touchdown. Between Jones' downfield greatness and Ridley's quick feet on the route tree, there are elements in place for a very productive unit here. Another encouraging Week 2 aspect was the inclusion of tight end Austin Hooper, who's often criminally underused in the gameplan. Hooper is big (6'4" and 254) and nimble in the Kyle Rudolph vein, and like Rudolph, he brings a strong, physical presence to the red zone. Hooper consistently beat the Carolina linebackers into the seams for 59 yards on 5 catches, including a short touchdown. In Week 1, the Saints allowed Ryan Fitzpatrick and his receivers to accumulate 417 yards and 4 touchdowns. The results were more palatable in Week 2, though Tyrod Taylor did complete 22 of 30 throws, including 3 of 23 yards or more. Taylor played a fairly sanitized game, but found numerous openings across the middle, then capped his day with a long touchdown pass. Typically, the Saints have more opportunity to make splash plays against the pass - and also to allow even more big-gainers. They were famously gashed by the deep ball in Week 1, and they're one of the league's more prone to it. Dating back to last season, no team has allowed more completions of 20+ yards than the Saints and Colts (69). Cornerbacks Marshon Lattimore and Ken Crawley are gambling ballhawks at heart, and while both can many quarterbacks pay, they also tend to jump early on throws and leave receivers open with daylight.
