Week 21: at Atlanta Falcons
Mark and Joe say: Neutral matchup. LeGarrette Blount has rushed for eight touchdowns in his last seven post-season games. He has scored six times in his last seven games this season, including the Divisional and Conference Championship games. He regained the lead position in the Patriots' running back stable during the Conference Championship game, handling 16/47/1 rushing while Dion Lewis had 6/11/0 rushing (with two targets for 2/8/0 receiving) and James White handled just 1/0/0 rushing (with four targets for 3/8/0 receiving). Two games ago, in the Divisional round vs. Houston, Lewis led the team with 13/41/1 rushing and seven targets for 2/23/1 receiving while Blount had just 8/31/0 rushing - but Blount had been ill prior to the Houston game and missed two practices. We'll see a blend of Blount, Lewis and White during the Super Bowl, but expect Blount and Lewis to handle the bulk of the work. Atlanta limited the Seahawks' lead running back, Thomas Rawls, to 11/34/0 rushing in the Divisional round of the playoffs, while Russell Wilson managed 6/49/0 rushing to lead the team - all told, the Seahawks posted 21/101/0 rushing at Atlanta in the Divisional round. The Falcons followed up by holding the Packers to 17/99/0 rushing during the Conference Championships (the Packers were down 0-24 at Atlanta by half-time and had to go pass-heavy in the second half). So far they average 100 rushing yards allowed per game during the post-season, down slightly from their season average of 104.5 rushing yards allowed per game (17th in the NFL, with 15 rushing scores given out during 16 games). From Week 15-17 (last three games of regular season), they averaged 18.3 fantasy points allowed per game (15th-most in the NFL). The Falcons aren't pushovers in this phase of the game, but they aren't shutting down the opposition, either. This is a neutral matchup for Blount and company.
