Week 3: at Cincinnati Bengals

Mark and Joe say: Bad matchup. Shonn Greene got off to a solid star last week (5/40/0 rushing) but was marginalized as the game went along because the Titans were down 0-16 at the half. All told, Tennessee tried just 13/82/0 during the contest. Greene is the unchallenged starter as of middle September, followed up by Dexter McCluster (4/30/0 rushing with 1/9/0 receiving and Bishop Sankey (2/3/0 rushing last week). The Bengals ranked fifth in the NFL last season averaging just 96.5 rushing yards allowed per game, and they gave up a mere six rushing scores through 16 games played (third in the NFL in this category). On opening day, the Ravens managed to punch in a rushing score (Justin Forsett managed a 13-yard TD run) - all told, the Bengals allowed 20/91/1 rushing to the Ravens. Last week, Atlanta ran for 19/97/0 at Cincinnati - currently, the Bengals are 11th in the NFL averaging 95.5 rushing yards allowed per game, with one rushing score handed over to date. Greene has yet to score this year, and it isn't likely he does so against the ruthless Bengals.

Recent Game Summaries

2014 Week 1 vs KC (15 / 71 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

Shonn Greene was fortunate to be the Titans starter entering the regular season. He had played very poorly in the preseason, but the Titans kept their faith in him over rookie Bishop Sankey. Greene showed more burst and better vision in this game, but he still proved to be a limited player overall. Greene had 15 carries and never left the field for good. He didn't seem to be injured, but he did concede more snaps to the other backs in the second half.

2014 Week 2 vs DAL (5 / 40 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

Shonn Greene had just five carries for 40 yards in this game. Each of those carries came in the first half and the scoreline will be used as an excuse for his limited usage, but realistically the play-calling was too pass-happy from the outset in this game. It's understandable that Whisenhunt wanted to get Locker and his weapons going against a very poor secondary, but imbalancing your offense immediately gives the defense an advantage that it hasn't earned. Greene should have played a greater role in this game.

Latest News

Titans | Shonn Green leads the backfield (Tue Sep 9, 10:12 PM) - Tennessee Titans RB Shonn Greene received a team-high 15 carries in Week 1 and led the team with 71 rushing yards.

Our View: Rookie Bishop Sankey has not taken over the starting job just yet. Sankey ran hard, but he finished third on the team in rushing--behind both Greene and Dexter McCluster.
