Week 11: vs Pittsburgh Steelers

All RB vs PIT

FBG says: Bad matchup. Leonard Fournette is back in the saddle as the Jaguars' lead runner, and while his return was huge from a volume standpoint (29 touches), the ground results were mixed. Fournette was the offensive engine, but managed just 53 yards (2.21 a carry) against the Colts. Some of that can be explained by a subpar front line that lost its best blocker, guard Brandon Linder, in-game. And Fournette, a power runner at heart, doesn't project for much efficiency with a porous line up front. He's flashed explosiveness for sure, but his career average of 3.73 isn't special. Without Linder, at least in the short term, the prognosis isn't much better. Ultimately, his Week 11 ceiling will be determined by his health and conditioning, and by Blake Bortles' ability to keep defenses backed off. Behind him, Carlos Hyde and T.J. Yeldon don't project much better in their backup roles, but Yeldon has always flashed homerun ability as a reserve. The Pittsburgh run defense has been dominant for most of 2018. Led by powerful, athletic ends Cameron Heyward and Stephon Tuitt, this is a front seven in which creases are often tough to come by. And the linebacking corps, even without Ryan Shazier, has been surprisingly stable, keeping to its gaps and tackling solidly. Things came apart a bit last week, with lightning-quick Christian McCaffrey able to find room for 77 yards on just 14 carries. But in general, this is among the NFL's best units, one that's typically very stingy to lead runners. McCaffrey was the first runner since Kareem Hunt in Week 2 to top 65 yards, and just the third to average more than 4.00 per rush.

Recent Game Summaries

2018 Week 5 vs KC (1 / 8 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

Grant appeared to roll his ankle on his only touch of the day. Donte Moncrief - Moncrief had a decently productive albeit unimpactful day. He continues drawing a significant amount of deep targets that are neither open nor catchable throws He got redzone backshoulder fade target that he got his hands on but could not come down with the catch through contact

2018 Week 4 vs NYJ (1 / 5 / 0 rush, 3 / 2 / 12 / 0 rec)

Grant played only a handful of snaps even after Fournette went down and was not a factor in the game.

2018 Week 3 vs TEN (6 / 11 / 0 rush, 2 / 1 / -1 / 0 rec)

With Leonard Fournette out again, Grant and Yeldon continued to split duties in the backfield. He ran a fake punt on second drive of the game, but the Titans were ready for it and stopped it. He is not effective as an inside runner from under center. . At this point, Grant is a manufactured touch player who does not offer much as a runner.

2018 Week 2 vs NE (4 / 13 / 0 rush, 7 / 6 / 56 / 0 rec)

Grant rotated with Yeldon on the day and was extremely effective as a receiver out of the backfield in this game. He checked in on the first drive and on his first snap caught a check down after play action and got upfield for 15 yards and a first down. He had a huge 3rd and 7 conversion in the redzone on a Texas route out of the backfield later in the game. He received the few carries the Jaguars ran from under center (they played in shotgun most of the game) but none of his carries were especially productive. While Grant has been a manufactured touch player to this point, he did make some nice plays within the flow of the offense in this game.

2018 Week 1 vs NYG (1 / 3 / 0 rush, 0 / 0 / 0 / 0 rec)

Entered the game on the first drive in a split backfield set with Fournette. Ran a quick swing route and made the catch for a couple of yards. Really only used as a decoy in the second half, with his occasional snaps mainly leading to play action fakes. The Jaguars used him as a second RB in their two back shotgun package on just one play. He simply was not involved in the gameplan from a manufactured touch standpoint from this week and got almost no traditional RB looks even after Fournette went down. His usage will be interesting to monitor, especially next week against New England - whom he burned on manufactured touches in the teams' AFC Championship Game meeting last year.
