He is listed as probable on this week's official injury report.

News you need to know

From the upgrade/downgrade report (Mon Sep 15): Gerhart is not getting any room to run and his offense is not moving the ball. The possibility of Blake Bortles and some healing in his injured ankle will help, but expectations for Gerhart this year have to be downgraded greatly.

General News (Fri Sep 19): practiced fully on Friday and is expected to play this weekend.

General News (Thu Sep 18): partially participated in Thursday's practice.

General News (Wed Sep 17): did not practice on Wednesday.

Week 3: vs Indianapolis Colts

Mark and Joe say: Tough matchup. Poor Toby Gerhart is stuck in a situation where the opposing teams stack the box with eight defenders and dare the Jaguars to pass (and generally either bad things happen when they pass or nothing happens). Last week, Gerhart handled 7/8/0 rushing and 2/9/0 receiving in the entire game. He's just not worthy of a spot in your fantasy lineup right now. The Colts' rush D averages 114.5 rushing yards allowed per game (17th in the NFL) with three rushing scores handed out to date. Philadelphia racked up 28/127/2 rushing on the Colts last week. The Jaguars' rushing attack is pathetic right now, making this a tough matchup for Gerhart despite the middlin' nature of the Colts' defensive front.

Recent Game Summaries

2014 Week 1 vs PHI (18 / 42 / 0 rush, 2 / 2 / 15 / 0 rec)

One of the biggest concerns with Toby Gerhart as a starter rather than a backup is his durability. In this game, the Jaguars were given a fright when Gerhart went off with an injury, but he did ultimately return. Gerhart ran well early in the game, showing good patience and vision with the ability to break tackles. However, the limitations of his offensive line were clear. Late in the game, Gerhart was being given more space and he showed an ability to take advantage of it with a number of impressive runs.

2014 Week 2 vs WAS (7 / 8 / 0 rush, 2 / 2 / 9 / 0 rec)

Because the Jaguars fell behind so far, Gerhart only had seven carries in this game. That's not supposed to be the game-plan with Gerhart. He's a volume runner who wants to try and wear down the defense with his physicality. What Gerhart discovered is that it's going to be tough to be effective in Jacksonville when the passing game isn't effective. He wasn't given any space to work in as the defense had no reason to respect the team's receivers and could overwhelm the Jaguars offensive line with ease. It was no surprise that Gerhart had more receiving yards on two touches than he had rushing yards on eight carries.

Jaguars | Toby Gerhart probable (Fri Sep 19, 05:57 PM) - Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (foot) fully practiced Friday, Sept. 19, and is probable for Week 3.

Jaguars | Toby Gerhart limited (Thu Sep 18, 04:46 PM) - Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (foot) was limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 18.

Our View: Gerhart has been a disappointment, though his offensive line is not opening holes for him and last week he didn't see work because the team was blown out. Right now he is no better than a RB4. Maybe things get better if (when) Blake Bortles takes over at QB for the Jaguars.

Jaguars | Toby Gerhart not seen at practice (Wed Sep 17, 04:21 PM) - Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (foot) did not practice Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Jaguars | Toby Gerhart probable (Fri Sep 12, 02:30 PM) - Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 12, and is listed as probable for Week 2.

Our View: Gerhart is a safe play against Washington because of volume, although our Dr. Jene Bramel thinks he suffered a high ankle sprain, so his upside will be limited until he is fully healed, which could take a while since he is playing through the injury.

Jaguars | Toby Gerhart expects to play (Thu Sep 11, 04:38 PM) - Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (ankle) is progressing and expects to play in Week 2 against the Washington Redskins.

Our View: Good news for the Jaguars here. Gerhart can be their bellcow RB, but he needs to stay healthy. Consider him a low-end RB2 or flex play in Week 2.
