RB Toby Gerhart - Jacksonville Jaguars
|6-0, 231||Born: 3-28-1987||College: Stanford||Drafted: Round 2|
News you need to know
From the upgrade/downgrade report (Mon Sep 15): Gerhart is not getting any room to run and his offense is not moving the ball. The possibility of Blake Bortles and some healing in his injured ankle will help, but expectations for Gerhart this year have to be downgraded greatly.

2014 Week 1 vs PHI (18 / 42 / 0 rush, 2 / 2 / 15 / 0 rec)
One of the biggest concerns with Toby Gerhart as a starter rather than a backup is his durability. In this game, the Jaguars were given a fright when Gerhart went off with an injury, but he did ultimately return. Gerhart ran well early in the game, showing good patience and vision with the ability to break tackles. However, the limitations of his offensive line were clear. Late in the game, Gerhart was being given more space and he showed an ability to take advantage of it with a number of impressive runs.
2014 Week 2 vs WAS (7 / 8 / 0 rush, 2 / 2 / 9 / 0 rec)
Because the Jaguars fell behind so far, Gerhart only had seven carries in this game. That's not supposed to be the game-plan with Gerhart. He's a volume runner who wants to try and wear down the defense with his physicality. What Gerhart discovered is that it's going to be tough to be effective in Jacksonville when the passing game isn't effective. He wasn't given any space to work in as the defense had no reason to respect the team's receivers and could overwhelm the Jaguars offensive line with ease. It was no surprise that Gerhart had more receiving yards on two touches than he had rushing yards on eight carries.
Latest NewsJaguars | Toby Gerhart probable (Fri Sep 12, 02:30 PM) - Jacksonville Jaguars RB Toby Gerhart (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 12, and is listed as probable for Week 2. Our View: Gerhart is a safe play against Washington because of volume, although our Dr. Jene Bramel thinks he suffered a high ankle sprain, so his upside will be limited until he is fully healed, which could take a while since he is playing through the injury.
