Week 3: at Buffalo Bills

All WR vs BUF

FBG says: Tough matchup. Trevor Siemian and the Broncos passing offense absolutely decimated a struggling Cowboys secondary last week. Siemian tied his career high with four touchdowns last week, completing nearly 70% of his passes for 231 yards. The combination of Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders led the way for Broncos receivers, each garnering eight targets and six receptions with Thomas leading in yardage with 71 but Sanders leading in touchdowns with two big scores. Thomas has yet to find the end zone this season, despite leading the Broncos in receiving yards each of the first two weeks. C.J. Anderson also got involved in the passing game here, hauling in three balls for 36 yards and a touchdown. The Bills pass defense is a solid unit off to a great start this season. Their pass-rush looked particularly fierce last week with consistent pressure applied to Cam Newton, resulting in six sacks on the day. Edge rusher Jerry Hughes was particularly effective, finishing with two sacks and four quarterback hurries in what was a tough matchup against former Pro Bowl left tackle Matt Kalil. Safety Jordan Poyer has been outstanding so far this season, contributing to the Bills allowing only two pass plays of 20 or more yards last week while racking up seven tackles, a sack, and three passes defended. With Denver missing left tackle Garrett Boles this week, a key piece of their offensive line, they may struggle to protect Siemian as he tries to find an opening against the hot Bills secondary.

Recent Game Summaries

2017 Week 2 vs DAL (3 / 1 / 8 / 0 rec)

Fowler looked to build on his successful week 1, operating out of the slot with Thomas and Sanders in 3WR sets. He missed his first target of the day, but made a diving catch on a slant route for his 2nd. Fowler had a scary moment later in the drive as he made an amazing diving catch over the left pylon, but landed out of bounds on his head. He popped up quickly but lurched forward and fell into two Dallas players, then staggered to his feet before turning and falling again. Fowler left the game under the concussion protocol and did not return.

2017 Week 1 vs LAC (4 / 3 / 21 / 2 rec)

Fowler posted a career night. His first catch was a 10 yard out route in the 1st quarter. Fowler scored soon after on a broken play when San Diego jumped offsides before the snap. Siemian called for the ball, scrambled right and hit Fowler, who made a great diving effort on the catch, in the back of the end zone for the first points of the game. Fowler caught another touchdown pass in the third quarter, flexing just off the offensive line and running a quick route up the seam for a quick touchdown pass from Siemian. Fowler played about half the Broncos offensive snaps, most of them from the slot. His two touchdowns were a career high, but he was only targeted 3 times all night.

Broncos | Bennie Fowler out of protocol (Sat Sep 23, 02:18 PM) - Denver Broncos WR Bennie Fowler (concussion) has cleared the concussion protocol but is still listed as questionable for Week 3.

Our View: Fowler still might not play against the Bills on Sunday. If he's down, then the Broncos would likely turn to Jordan Taylor in Week 3. In two games, Taylor has been a healthy scratch for the Broncos. Rookie Isaiah McKenzie would also get a bump in opportunity.
