Week 15: at Oakland Raiders - $6600

All QB vs OAK

FBG says: Great matchup. Gardner Minshew had quite the uninspiring game for his first start back under center since Week 9 for the Jaguars, passing for just 162 yards and a touchdown last week as he was completely unwilling to throw a deep ball. Last week was certainly a contrast from what Minshew displayed earlier this season, as he was no stranger to taking deep shots at his big-bodied wide receivers. Minshew will be without one of those receivers though, as top target D.J. Chark may have caught his last pass this season. Chark suffered a foot injury in last week's game and will be unavailable this week. This leaves Dede Westbrook as the next best option as he should slide into Chark's position with Conley lining up opposite him. Westbrook has battled injuries of his own this season, but he has seen at least seven targets in three straight games and should offer a decent option on the outside. Leonard Fournette is the other primary target for Minshew, especially if those underneath passing routes continue to prevail in the minds of Jacksonville play-callers. Fournette has been on fire as a receiver this season and should continue to be a focal point of this entire offense. The Raiders have consistently been one of the worst teams in football against the pass. They have coughed up the second-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, the second-most passing touchdowns (30), the highest average yards per pass play (8.6) to opposing passing offenses. Big plays have been a problem for this defense as they lead the league in explosive passing plays allowed, giving up 63 receptions of 20 or more yards and 15 receptions of 40 or more yards. Slot receivers have given Jacksonville fits as cornerback Lamarcus Joyner has been the weakest link in this secondary. This will bode well for Dede Westbrook if the Jaguars can rotate him into his usual slot position this week, but Westbrook will likely run more routes on the outside in place of the injured D.J. Chark. Leonard Fournette should also have a great chance at making plays through the air this week, as these Raiders linebackers have been terrible in pass coverage while the entire defense has struggled to effectively tackle. The defensive line has done a decent job at applying pressure and should be an even match for the Jaguars in the trenches, but nothing else about this passing matchup is even as Gardner Minshew should have plenty of opportunities to get back on track this week.

Recent Game Summaries

2019 Week 13 vs TB (7 / 14 / 93 / 0 / 1 pass, 1 / 3 / 0 rush - -0.98 points, $7500)

Nick Foles started the game for Jacksonville, but he didn't finish it due to a completely disastrous first half. He finished the game 7-of-14 for 93 yards, no touchdowns, one interception and two fumbles lost, with one fumble being returned for a touchdown. Foles was making poor decisions and misfired too many throws in the first half, with his interception thrown to Devin White on the first drive a perfect example. When he wasn't making poor reads and throws or checking it down, he was showing poor pocket presence and a complete inability to navigate the pocket. He looked like a statute on Sunday, and his lumbering movements and lack of pocket awareness directly resulted in each of his fumbles, with the second one occurring as he was trying to extend a play in the pocket. Foles was benched at halftime after a three-turnover, three three-and-out performance in the first half, and head coach Doug Marrone said Monday that Minshew would start moving forward.

2019 Week 12 vs TEN (32 / 48 / 272 / 0 / 0 pass, 3 / 20 / 0 rush - 14.88 points, $7600)

Foles began the first drive with two completions to Chris Conley for first downs. A Brandon Linder holding penalty later in the drive got the Jaguars backed up behind the sticks, resulting in a 3rd down sack. He did have a well thrown 9-route to Chris Conley on the second drive that ended in a horrific drop for the receiver. His last two possessions of the first half were atrocious, with multiple weakly thrown balls, one of which should have been intercepted. Once the Jaguars went down 32-3 in the early third quarter, Foles' deficiencies were on clear display. He cannot move well to avoid pressure, and his arm strength is downright poor. The team seemed insistent on calling receiver screens and RPOs, indicating that they don't trust his arm strength and accuracy testing the intermediate and deep portions of the field.

2019 Week 11 vs IND (33 / 47 / 296 / 2 / 1 pass, 0 / 0 / 0 rush - 18.84 points, $7000)

Sunday was Nick Foles' first full game as the Jaguars' starting quarterback and the first time he has attempted a pass since Week 1 against the Kansas City Chiefs. While the Jacksonville coaching staff put Garnder Minshew II on the bench in favor of Foles due to Foles' veteran pedigree, that veteran presence did next to nothing to help elevate the Jacksonville offense against the Colts. Foles finished the game 33/47 for 296 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. One of the touchdowns and close to half the yardage came when the game was 31-7 and were Blake Bortles-esque garbage time stats.  As a whole, Foles looked below-average on Sunday. His throws lacked velocity as it looked like he was still trying to get back to full strength after his Week 1 clavicle injury and this showed often when he tried to test the Colts' secondary vertically. Too many times he threw it into double, and sometimes even triple coverage when attempting to throw deep, and most of the passes were floaters that the Jaguars' receivers had to breakup to prevent interceptions.  Foles did a good job with his short to intermediate accuracy, notably on DJ Chark's 34-yard as he threw it to Chark in stride in the middle of the field and helped him transition from receiver to ball carrier. He was also able to step up in the pocket decently vs. a feisty Colts' pass rush, but his lack of mobilty also hurt the team at times, such as when the Colts sent mass blitzes.  Overall Foles underthrew or floated too many passes and simply didn't do anything extraordinary to elevate the Jaguars offense. He checked down a lot and took the safe throws, but he also made some terrible decisions, such as when he threw a deep pass into double coverage with less than a minute left in the first half that was then intercepted by Rock Ya-Sin.

2019 Week 1 vs KC (5 / 8 / 75 / 1 / 0 pass, 0 / 0 / 0 rush - 7 points, $6500)

Nick Foles only played two possessions (11 snaps) before suffering a fractured left clavicle when Chiefs defensive tackle landed on him hard. Before exiting the game, Foles was 5/8 passing for 75 yards and a touchdown. His first few throws were forgettable checkdowns, but his second drive featured a nice play when he shrugged off a Chris Jones sack and converted a 3rd and 18 with an accurate pass over the middle to Chris Conley. He capped the drive off with a beautiful 35-yard touchdown in the corner of the end zone to Chark, but that would be the same play that would end up sidelining him for the foreseeable future.

Jaguars | Gardner Minshew back in the saddle (Mon Dec 2, 02:04 PM) - Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew was named the starting quarterback by head coach Doug Marrone for Week 14 versus the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday, Dec. 2, taking over for Nick Foles.

Our View: Foles couldn't get it done against the Buccaneers, so Marrone is going with the rookie. Perhaps that has ruffled some feathers with Tom Coughlin, so Marrone may be coaching his last few games with the Jaguars over the course of the next month.

Jaguars | Gardner Minshew throws for 147 yards (Sun Dec 1, 06:32 PM) - Jacksonville Jaguars QB Gardner Minshew went 16-for-27 for 147 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 13 after replacing QB Nick Foles.

Our View: We can't be sure if the Jaguars will play Minshew or Nick Foles next week, or who the head coach will be. It's better for the Jaguars fantasy options if Minshew plays.

Jaguars | Nick Foles struggles against Tampa (Sun Dec 1, 06:25 PM) - Jacksonville Jaguars QB Nick Foles went 7-for-14 for 93 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 13 before he was benched.

Jaguars | Nick Foles benched (Sun Dec 1, 03:06 PM) - Jacksonville Jaguars QB Nick Foles was benched during the Week 13 game and has been replaced by QB Gardner Minshew.

Our View: Foles was terrible early, giving up the ball three times to Tampa Bay. He hasn't looked good since he returned. The Jaguars committed a lot of guaranteed money to him but he's their second best quarterback. We'll see who starts against the Chargers next week, but you should hope for Minshew if you rely on any Jaguars in your lineup.
