Week 15: at New York Giants
FBG says: Neutral matchup. Derrick Henry made quite the case for an increased share in this Titans rushing offense last week as he rushed for 238 yards and four touchdowns, highlighted by 99-yard and 54-yard touchdown runs. Dion Lewis saw the start and still got more snaps than Henry in this outing, but Henry was clearly the more effective runner. This explosion from Henry was truly unprecedented, as he had yet to rush for more than 60 yards in a game this season. All but 12 of Henry's 238 rushing yards came after contact as well last week, showing not only his strength as a runner but also the sheer ineptitude of Jaguars defenders as they tackled very poorly throughout the game. The touchdowns have been coming in bunches in the past few games for Henry though, especially around the goal line as he scored his fifth rushing touchdown of the season from within the five-yard line last week. Lewis should certainly remain involved, but this game from Henry certainly must bump up his stock in this offense. What will not help, however, is the season-ending injury to Pro Bowl right tackle Jack Conklin. With left tackle Taylor Lewan also banged up in last week's game, the reeling Titans offensive line will be in a tough spot. While the Giants cracked down on the Redskins ground game last week holding Adrian Peterson to just 16 yards on 10 carries, that stat line is masked by the sheer ineptitude of the entire Redskins offense rather than any particularly great play from this Giants defense. This Giants defense ranks near the middle of the pack against the run on the season. Their strength is certainly on the defensive line with nose tackle Dalvin Tomlinson likely to be a problem for new Titans center Ben Jones while these edge defenders could cause problems for the banged-up Taylor Lewan and replacement right tackle Dennis Kelly. The middle of the field, however, is where teams have exploited this defense due to the poor play all around from these Giants linebackers and safeties. If the Titans running backs can make it to the second level, it will require some good tackling to take down the likes of Derrick Henry--and these Giants defensive backs certainly have had their misses at times this season. The first step, however, will be sustained improvement from what has been a disappointing Titans offensive line.
