Recent Game Summaries
2018 Week 17 vs SEA (9 / 4 / 36 / 1 rec - 11.6 points, $6300)
Fitzgerald finished the 2018 season with a touchdown, his first since Week 12, in the narrow road loss in Seattle. Fitzgerald converted on the score with a one-handed corner route catch, looking too easy for the veteran. Fitzgerald produced a highlight back shoulder grab down the sideline, but was ruled just out of bounds on the play. Fitzgerald enters the offseason as a question mark to play in 2019 but exhibited little physical erosion to his game in 2018 as a viable slot receiver and possession target.
2018 Week 16 vs LAR (9 / 6 / 53 / 0 rec - 13.58 points, $6100)
Fitzgerald led Arizona with nine targets, but his highlight came on a touchdown pass he threw to David Johnson for Arizona's lone end zone trip against the Rams. It was Fitzgerald's second completion and first touchdown of his long NFL career as a passer. Fitzgerald was peppered with short targets early in the game, logging four of his six catches in the first 20 minutes. In the second half, Fitzgerald had a rare after-the-catch opportunity producing more than 10 additional yards in the otherwise middling Arizona offensive performance.
2018 Week 15 vs ATL (8 / 7 / 82 / 0 rec - 11.7 points, $6000)
In the blowout loss to Atlanta Fitzgerald logged his second-highest yardage total of the season. Fitzgerald converted fourth-and-long on his best catch of the game, a stop route in tight coverage. Fitzgerald aggregated most of his production in the second half with the game clearly decided, including a 15-yard reception in the closing minutes of garbage time.
2018 Week 14 vs DET (9 / 5 / 55 / 0 rec - 8 points, $6200)
Fitzgerald broke Jerry Rice's NFL record for most receptions. However, Fitzgerald was hounded by Detroit's bracket coverage to an invisible first half before setting the record in the mid-third quarter. Fitzgerald collected much of his production in clear garbage time with the Lions' win clearly in hand late in the game. Fitzgerald had a nice catch on a throw behind him and his notable scoring opportunity was a back shoulder end zone target which was incomplete. Fitzgerald was already the focal point of defenses' coverage before Christian Kirk's injury but was even more so this week against the Lions. Fitzgerald's 55 yards was his highest totals since Week 8 and third-highest of the season for what has been a lost year for Arizona.
2018 Week 13 vs GB (6 / 3 / 48 / 0 rec - 6.3 points, $6400)
Fitzgerald had a quiet game against the Packers until the closing minutes. Fitzgerald's lone significant opportunity through three-and-a-half quarters was a seam target woefully overthrown by Josh Rosen. However, the pair connected for the biggest play of the game by Arizona's offense. In a tie game and faced with third-and-23 from deep in their own territory Rosen rolled right and found Fitzgerald on a deep completion. Fitzgerald corralled the pass near the ground in a highlight moment and Arizona rushed to the line of scrimmage to avoid a Green Bay challenge. Arizona went on to kick the game-winning field goal for the surprising road win.
2018 Week 12 vs LAC (2 / 2 / 30 / 1 rec - 10 points, $6300)
Fitzgerald got Arizona off to a strong start against the Chargers, capping an impressive opening drive with a touchdown. Fitzgerald pivoted away from a defender on a deep in-cut, surging to the end zone for the score. Fitzgerald did not see another target until the closing minutes of the blowout loss, being stuffed on a slot screen. With only 19 passes for Arizona in the game, Fitzgerald's touchdown was arguably the lone highlight in the lost offensive effort.
2018 Week 11 vs OAK (4 / 2 / 23 / 2 rec - 15.3 points, $5900)
Fitzgerald had a season-low two receptions against Oakland, but made them count as both were for touchdowns. One of Rosen's best throws of the game was an over-the-top touchdown to Fitzgerald with the other an easy rollout score in the red zone. Fitzgerald has been hot over the past month with four touchdowns and 34 targets.
2018 Week 10 vs KC (10 / 6 / 50 / 0 rec - 8 points, $5800)
Fitzgerald led Arizona with 10 targets against the Chiefs, but big plays eluded Fitzgerald. On one notable deeper target, Fitzgerald had a full extension opportunity on an end zone corner route, but could not haul in the pass. Fitzgerald created yards-after-catch on a hitch yards, churning out 15 yards for his most successful play. Fitzgerald added two garbage time receptions to boost his stat line.
2018 Week 8 vs SF (12 / 8 / 102 / 1 rec - 22.2 points, $5800)
Fitzgerald ended his stretch of struggling performances with a massive 100-yard game on 12 targets, by far the most on the team against the 49ers. Fitzgerald was at his best making extension plays, including a low grab on third down, a high-point catch down the season, and a perfect red zone post for a fourth quarter touchdown. The lone missed opportunity was a Josh Rosen overthrow down the seam where Fitzgerald gained separation early in the game. With back-to-back touchdown games, Fitzgerald heads into the bye week on a high point before a road tilt against Kansas City.
2018 Week 7 vs DEN (8 / 4 / 40 / 1 rec - 12 points, $0)
Fitzgerald logged his first touchdown of the season against Denver, a glimmer of positivity in Arizona's blowout home loss. Fitzgerald rarely found separation against the Broncos secondary, but a quick in-cut on the goal line freed Fitzgerald for the score. Fitzgerald added a nice snare of a low throw behind him on another target, but was stifled most of the game with Josh Rosen under consistent pressure in the pocket. Fitzgerald absorbed a huge hit late in the game, but popped up immediately and continued to play.
2018 Week 6 vs MIN (8 / 5 / 39 / 0 rec - 6.4 points, $6200)
Fitzgerald has been in a funk since Week 1, failing to surpass even 40 yards in any of the previous five games. Fitzgerald was already playing a hearty amount of his snaps in the slot and now is struggling to separate much at all even on interior routes. Fitzgerald led the team with eight targets, but his quality plays were minimal. Fitzgerald was stuffed on a screen catch and, more glaring, was misplaying a deep fourth down pass into tight coverage. Josh Rosen arced a well-thrown ball to Fitzgerald, a drop in the bucket display of accuracy, however Fitzgerald did not locate the pass in time and Arizona turned the ball over on downs. On the plus side, Fitzgerald did draw a defensive pass interference penalty in the end zone, which led to a touchdown, and make a diving reception versus contact.
2018 Week 5 vs SF (3 / 2 / 35 / 0 rec - 4.5 points, $6400)
Fitzgerald was an afterthought for the Cardinals against the 49ers, seeing a mere three targets and none until the final seconds of the first half. Both of Fitzgerald's catches came in a short span late in the second quarter as San Francisco funneled the ball inside with the clock ticking down. Fitzgerald benefitted with two catches, but during traditional play Fitzgerald was invisible. After three straight seasons of 100+ receptions, Fitzgerald is on pace for barely 50 this season and has yet to find the end zone.
2018 Week 4 vs SEA (7 / 3 / 28 / 0 rec - 4.3 points, $6400)
Fitzgerald was one of the Arizona skill position options not to take advantage of Josh Rosen's uptick as the new starter at quarterback. Fitzgerald logged two uncharacteristic drops amidst his seven targets and in general struggled to separate, primarily over the middle of the field. Fitzgerald's lone highlight came on a third down contested snare of a Josh Rosen fastball. After three down games in a row, Fitzgerald gets the suspect 49ers coverage unit in Week 5.
2018 Week 3 vs CHI (2 / 2 / 9 / 0 rec - 1.9 points, $6700)
Fitzgerald struggled against Chicago, corralling two short targets in the game as Christian Kirk enjoyed a breakout performance. Sam Bradford did little to help Fitzgerald with his own lackluster game, but Fitzgerald struggled to separate on short and intermediate routes over the middle of the field as his physical erosion continues in his mid-30s.
2018 Week 2 vs LAR (5 / 3 / 28 / 0 rec - 4.3 points, $7100)
Fitzgerald sustained a hamstring injury against the Rams, limiting his second half work in the blowout loss. It was tough sledding for Fitzgerald before the injury as he got loose in the secondary a single time, finding an open zone for a third-and-long conversion. Everything else was a battle, including a diving reception and multiple targets batted away by the defense. A bigger concern than Fitzgerald waning ability to separate is Arizona's futility as an offense through two weeks.
2018 Week 1 vs WAS (10 / 7 / 76 / 0 rec - 11.1 points, $7300)
Fitzgerald led Arizona is targets with 10 against Washington. Overall, Fitzgerald struggled to separate on his short and intermediate routes. Fitzgerald collected most of his yardage on two downfield catches, a corner route with an excellent throw by Sam Bradford for more than 25 yards and a deep out route as Arizona finally gained some offensive momentum late in the third quarter. Fitzgerald had a touchdown opportunity with a goal line shovel pass, but was stuffed on the play by Washington front seven.
