Week 5: vs Arizona Cardinals
Mark and Joe say: Bad matchup. Through three games, the Broncos average 75.3 yards rushing per game, near the bottom of the league, and have just one rushing score to date. Everyone knows that the offense is centered on Peyton Manning, but this is not exactly what the Broncos (or fantasy owners) envisioned from Montee Ball. 14/38/0 rushing with 2/6/0 receiving for Ball at Seattle; 12/60/0 rushing with 3/29/0 receiving vs. Kansas City for Ball two games ago. There simply hasn't been much juice in the Denver rushing attack to date.
The Cardinals have one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL - they are ranked fourth in the NFL averaging 71.7 yards rushing allowed per game, with two rushing scores given up to date. San Francisco managed 23/82/1 rushing at Arizona two weeks ago, but Frank Gore was held to 6/10/0 rushing and Carlos Hyde had just 3/13/1 on the ground (Colin Kaepernick led the squad with 12/54/0 rushing on the day). As Manning is not a threat to run the ball like Kaepernick is, we expect the Cardinals to key on Ball this Sunday.
This is a bad week to hope for a rebirth on Ball's part.
