Week 12: at Cincinnati Bengals

All TE vs CIN

FBG says: Bad matchup. There really isn't any way to say it other than DeShone Kizer is an absolute mess. The Browns passing game with a combination of DeShone Kizer and Cody Kessler over the last three weeks have been sacked 12 times, thrown three interceptions, and fumbled the ball three times of which they lost two of those. The good news for the Browns is that they got Corey Coleman back this past week and appear to be utilizing him heavily as he had 11 targets this past week and is the lone receiver on this Browns team that has above replacement level talent. The Bengals secondary has been one of the best defenses against the pass in the league as they are only averaging 200.6 yards per game which is the sixth best in football. Over the last four weeks, however, they are 15th in fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks and have faced Brock Osweiler, Marcus Mariota, and Blake Bortles, so while this is a good unit, it is not an elite unit as they are decimated with injuries. The Bengals are without one of their best corners Adam Jones as he is still dealing with a concussion and appears unlikely to play this week. The good news for the Bengals is that their pass rush should have a field day against this Browns passing game as the Bengals are fourth in the NFL in terms of sacks and the Browns are fourth in sacks allowed this season.

Recent Game Summaries

2017 Week 11 vs JAX (3 / 1 / 5 / 0 rec)

DeValve made just one catch in the game but he was targeted near the end zone in the fourth quarter. It appeared he had a chance to make the catch before Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey leaped up and knocked the ball down at the last moment.

2017 Week 10 vs DET (6 / 4 / 70 / 0 rec)

DeValve had a productive game as he led the Browns in receiving and tied for the team lead with six targets. He did, however, commit an extremely costly fumble in the second quarter which resulted in a defensive touchdown for the Lions. On the play, DeValve caught a nine-yard pass and was fighting for the first down when he was stood up and stripped by the defender. In the third quarter he came very close to scoring a touchdown as he was brought down at the one-yard line after a 35-yard catch.

2017 Week 8 vs MIN (3 / 1 / 0 / 0 rec)

DeValve was quiet, making just one catch for no gain. He did draw an end zone target in the third quarter but the pass was thrown too high. He wanted a pass interference flag after he slammed into cornerback Xavier Rhodes on his route but no flag came. It's questionable whether the ball would have been catchable even if Rhodes didn't bump into him.

2017 Week 6 vs HOU (3 / 2 / 9 / 1 rec)

DeValve was quiet for most of the game but he did score the team's only touchdown on the Browns' final offensive play of the game. He caught a short, three-yard touchdown on a fade route. DeValve continues to split reps with rookie David Njoku, which caps his upside.

2017 Week 3 vs IND (5 / 2 / 29 / 0 rec)

DeValve came really close to having a big game for the Browns. He had what looked like a 25-yard catch in the first quarter nullified by an offensive pass interference call. In the second quarter he made an impressive 20-yard catch. Later in the second quarter he picked up 15 yards for his team after a defensive pass interference call. In the third quarter, DeValve had a 12-yard catch nullified by offensive pass interference again. DeValve has been splitting reps with rookie tight end David Njoku but he has shown he has the ability to get open in the middle of the field for the Browns.

2017 Week 2 vs BAL (4 / 2 / 61 / 0 rec)

DeValve ripped off a 49-yard reception in the second quarter after Kevin Hogan found him wide open down the field. DeValve later converted a 12-yard catch on fourth-and-11 to keep Cleveland's final drive of the game alive.

2017 Week 1 vs PIT (5 / 4 / 42 / 0 rec)

DeValve made several big catches for the Browns against the Steelers, including a big catch to convert fourth-and-two in the fourth quarter. He had a step on his man in the second quarter, but was slightly overthrown and was unable to make a leaping catch. While he doesn't get as much notoriety as rookie tight end David Njoku, DeValve appears to be a big part of the Cleveland offense this season.
