Marcell Dareus has been a frustrating player at times because he clearly has enough ability to be one of the very best at his position. There were clear signs last year that he was starting to reach his potential as he posted 70 combined tackles and 7.5 sacks, but he was benched late in the year for being late to team meetings and then arrested in the offseason for marijuana possession. It was apparently his first violation of the league's substance abuse policy, but he could still be susceptible to a suspension. It's time for the former 3rd overall pick to mature and become a truly dominant player. If that happens, the Bills defensive line may be too much for most teams to handle. Either way, he should once again be considered a clear fantasy starter at a position which is not very deep. (May 24)

Bills | Marcell Dareus entering treatment (Tue Jul 22, 10:53 AM) - Buffalo Bills DT Marcell Dareus has agreed to enter an NFL substance abuse program as he works to have felony drug charges dismissed, according to Rod Giddens, Dareus' attorney. Dareus was given permission to enter the program at a hearing in Calhoun County Court in Alabama Monday, July 21.

Our View: Charges levied on May 5 of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia will be dismissed and perhaps expunged should he complete the required activities. With the legal process exhausted, the NFL could step in and discipline Dareus with fines and/or a suspension.

Bills | Marcell Dareus due back today (Tue Jul 22, 09:26 AM) - Buffalo Bills DT Marcell Dareus is expected to return to the team Tuesday, July 22, after his flight was delayed the previous day.

Our View: Dareus needs to get things on the right track off the field. He failed his conditioning test at the start of camp, and he was arrested twice earlier this offseason. On the field, Dareus is an impact player with tremendous upside. The Bills have him under contract for the next two years. He's unlikely to get a long-term offer from the team in the future if he continues to be a distraction off the field.

Bills | Marcell Dareus excused, will return (Mon Jul 21, 04:52 PM) - Buffalo Bills DT Marcell Dareus left practice Monday, July 21, for personal reasons, according to head coach Doug Marrone. He is expected back for the evening practice.

Our View: Dareus is under contract for the next two years, but his act has been wearing a bit thin. Arrested twice this offseason, Dareus failed to pass the team's conditioning test at the start of training camp. He's incredibly talented, but Dareus has to stay on track if he's going to play up to his potential in Buffalo.
