Week 8: vs Buffalo Bills

Mark and Joe say: Tough matchup. Geno Smith avoided making 'the big mistake(s)' last week, with 20/34 for 226 yards passing, one TD and zero interceptions thrown (he did fumble once, but the Jets retained possession). He has two straight games with more TD passes than turnovers, which is helping open up the running game for Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson (teams have to respect the Jets' passing game at least a little as of Week 8). The usual suspects saw Smith's passes last week; seven targets for 4/65/0 receiving went to Eric Decker, four for 3/50/1 landed in Jeff Cumberland's arms; five for 2/29/0 went to Jeremy Kerley; and five for 3/22/0 went to Jace Amaro. The Jets aren't hard to predict, but at least Smith did enough to scare the Patriots' fans last week. The Bills' pass D is ranked first in the NFL with 24 sacks, while the Jets have given up 18 (tied for 25th in the NFL) - it's a fair bet that Smith will have guys in his face often during the game in New York this weekend. Buffalo averages 247.6 net passing yards given up per game, with 12 passing TDs given up vs. eight interceptions generated so far (tied for third in the NFL). This is an attacking, gambling secondary and front seven. Teddy Bridgewater was sacked five times for -39 yards and intercepted twice last weekend (15/26 for 118 yards passing and one TD thrown) - Tom Brady bombed this unit for 27/37 yielding 346 net passing yards, four TDs and zero interceptions two weeks ago, while being sacked twice for -15 yards. Smith is in for a tough divisional fight this weekend, and the Bills' pass-rushing prowess lines up well against the Jets' weak pass blocking. Advantage, Buffalo.
