Week 3: at Houston Texans
FBG says: Neutral matchup. Eli Manning had a tough matchup in Week 1 against the Jaguars, and he failed to rebound in a great way with a more favorable matchup against the Cowboys last week. Manning averaged only 6.3 yards per pass attempt as he was under relentless pressure throughout the outing. Poor play from his offensive line caused significant issues for Manning and his receivers, as Manning had little time for plays to develop and receiver to get open. This was on full display with how heavily utilized Saquon Barkley was through the air, hauling in 14 of 16 targets for 80 yards as Manning hit him with check-down after check-down as the only option available. This then helped correlate to an ineffective Odell Beckham Jr., catching just four passes for 51 yards. Evan Engram bounced back with a touchdown last week, albeit in garbage time. He should continue to play a big role in this passing offense as the matchup in Week 1 was about as tough as it can get for him. The Giants clearly want to run their offense through Saquon Barkley though, which will eat into production for the rest of this offense. The Giants offensive line struggled mightily against the Cowboys last week, allowing six sacks and plenty of pressures. The Giants have now allowed eight sacks in their first two games, making this a prime spot for the Texans talented edge rushers to bounce back from a couple relatively underwhelming outings. They were without Jadeveon Clowney last week though, so keep an eye on his status as having both Clowney and J.J. Watt will be a very tough matchup for this Giants offensive line. In the secondary, the Texans have seen decent coverage but poor tackling last week against the Titans with most of the yardage allowed coming after the catch with Titans receivers repeatedly running through lackluster arm tackles. Odell Beckham Jr. should see a good bit of Johnathan Joseph while Sterling Shepard will line up opposite backup cornerback Aaron Colvin, filling in for the injured Kevin Johnson. Colvin played well last week against the Titans, so this should be a pretty even matchup. Evan Engram will draw coverage from Tyrann Mathieu, who almost always presents a challenge despite his constant size mismatch.
