News you need to know

From the upgrade/downgrade report (Tue Nov 24): The Patriots are losing passing targets every week, and Chandler is likely to get more targets and snaps as the two tight end set becomes more prevalent in their offense. Rob Gronkowski's blocking is also being used more with offensive line injuries piling up, which could get Chandler out in more downfield routes.

Week 12: at Denver Broncos

All TE vs DEN

Mark and Joe say: Tough matchup. Tom Brady got hit a good bit by Buffalo, but he kept grinding down the Bills' defense and eventually the game opened up a bit - on the day Brady threw 20/39 for 277 net passing yards, one TD and one interception. Without Julian Edelman on the field, Danny Amendola (12 targets for 9/117/0 receiving) and Brandon LaFell (eight for 4/66/0) led the receiving corps in targets, while Rob Gronkowski faced a lot of coverage and managed just 2/37/0 out of seven chances. It wasn't the most explosive game Brady ever played, but the Patriots wound up with a 'W' anyway. The Broncos' pass D is ranked first in the NFL averaging 190.6 net passing yards allowed per game, they are first in the NFL with just eight passing scores given out to date, and have generated 34 sacks (first in the NFL). The team also has 10 interceptions so far (tied for 11th in the NFL). Over the past four weeks (four games), this team is fourth-least in fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks (15.9 on average); eighth-least in fantasy points allowed to opposing tight ends (5.9); and is third-least in the league in fantasy points given out to opposing wide receivers (11.9). Any way you slice it these guys are dominant pass defenders. Last week Jay Cutler posted 18/32 for 261 net yards passing, zero TDs and one interception thrown against Denver - in Chicago. This is a tough matchup for any NFL quarterback this season.

Recent Game Summaries

2015 Week 11 vs BUF (2 / 1 / 3 / 0 rec)

Scott Chandler may be forced to play more snaps in the future because of injury. Against the Bills, however, he was next to useless.

2015 Week 10 vs NYG (3 / 1 / 1 / 1 rec)

The good news was Chandler's easy short touchdown catch off play action at the goal line. The bad news was his drop of a deep ball that most receivers should catch with ease. Once again, Chandler played a limited role in the passing game.

2015 Week 7 vs NYJ (2 / 2 / 34 / 0 rec)

Chandler did have a big catch of 26 yards in 1 on 1 coverage, but beyond that, he only played a handful of snaps.

2015 Week 6 vs IND (3 / 2 / 39 / 0 rec)

Chandler's most notable play was an offensive pass interference call in the endzone that would have been a touchdown in his hands. Beyond that, he had a big gain of 25 yards, but not much else.

2015 Week 2 vs BUF (5 / 3 / 23 / 0 rec)

Though it was a revenge game and he saw 2 endzone targets, Scott Chandler wasn't able to do much with his opportunities. One of the targets in the endzone could have been a touchdown, but Chandler bobbled it enough to let a defender knock the ball away.

2015 Week 1 vs PIT (1 / 1 / 1 / 1 rec)

Though Chandler wasn't targeted much, he did see a target on the 1 that led to a touchdown. Chandler ran a flat route, caught the ball on the 1, and reached over the goal line while getting tackled to barely score. Chandler will likely be inconsistent over the years in terms of stats, but has a role on the team for sure.
