Week 16: at Oakland Raiders

Mark and Joe say: Good matchup. Kyle Orton has tapered off in performance over the last three games, with two TD passes thrown vs. five interceptions given away during that time span. Last week, he played conservatively (14/27 for 158 yards passing, and zero scores thrown with one interception) while his defense scored the lone Buffalo TD during the affair. Sammy Watkins (27 targets for 11/166/0 receiving) has been thrown to the most over the past three games, while Chris Hogan (15 for 10/68/2) has handled all the TDs available of late. Robert Woods (16 targets for 9/129/0 receiving) and Scott Chandler (16 for 13/105/0) have been heavily involved for Orton as well. The Oakland pass D is ranked eighth in the NFL averaging 228.1 net passing yards allowed per game, with 25 passing scores given up over 14 games vs. just seven interceptions (tied for 27th in the league) and 19 sacks (30th) generated this year. They coughed up 18/30 for 295 net yards, two TDS and zero interceptions to Alex Smith last week (one sack taken for -2 yards) after limiting the struggling Colin Kaepernick to 18/33 for 151 net yards passing, one TD and two interceptions thrown (with five sacks taken for -23 yards). The Raiders' up-and-down pass D isn't very good overall, while the Bills' passing attack has slowed down of late, but is still capable of a big game - advantage, Buffalo.

Recent Game Summaries

2014 Week 13 vs CLE (3 / 3 / 2 / 0 rec)

Scott Chandler caught all three of his targets, but in a perfect microcosm of the passing attack on Sunday, only amassed two yards. Chandler was surprisingly routed wide on all three catches and never went vertical as the Browns did a tremendous job dropping him immediately.

2014 Week 14 vs DEN (11 / 8 / 81 / 0 rec)

Chandler was one of three pass catchers to receiver double-digit targets and he trailed only Sammy Watkins in yards after Orton went to the tight end heavy on the Bills final drive. After picking up four yards on the opening drive, Chandler was the target as the Bills went for it on fourth down the following drive. Chandler ran a wheel route, but the defender made a rather fortuitous play on the ball to prevent the completion. After picking up 11 yards on a underneath play, Chandler picked up eight more running a shallow crosser as he used his big body to shield the defender. Another short completion before Chandler caught a touchdown pass that was ultimately negated by an incredibly weak offensive pass interference flag. Able to work the middle of the field, especially underneath, heavy on the final drive; Chandler caught four consecutive balls as he took the Bills inside the Denver 15-yard line.

2014 Week 15 vs GB (2 / 2 / 22 / 0 rec)

Scott Chandler caught both targets on Sunday, one in each half, as his second proved much more critical than his first. Needing a first down in the worst way to avoid a three and out late in the 4th quarter, Chandler simply sat down in the zone just beyond the line of scrimmage. Orton correctly identified the tight end and quickly hit him, as Chandler was able to use the quick decision to pick up the first down.
