Main      Career stats      Game Logs      Latest News

Chancellor, playing the position cheerfully called Deathbacker, has impressive athleticism, range and coverage ability for a SS that is improbably about the same size as Luke Kuechly (at 6'3", 232 lbs.). He also has unexpectedly good ball skills, with 4 INTs in 2011 and 3 INTs in 2013. It helps that Earl Thomas patrols the back end, so he isn't exposed in deep coverage, they have complementary skills sets that mesh well with other. While many teams are moving to the more interchangeable skill set model and some strong safeties are going the way of David "Dinosaur" Fulcher, Seattle has had a lot of success employing a more traditional SS/FS division of labor. What sets Chancellor apart is as a physical, intimidating striker and tone setter for the defense (sort of a throwback to legendary old school Seahawk Kenny Easley). His hit on Demaryius Thomas in the Super Bowl is an oft-cited example. It wasn't just a hit on Thomas, but had reverberations that rippled across and through both teams, firing up his own team and intimidating the opposition. Chancellor also had a career high 80 solo tackles in 2013, has outstanding run/pass recognition and basically functions like an extra LB on run downs. A really good LB. (May 26)
