Andre Caldwell handled return duties well enough at the end of 2013 that the team appears to be giving him the kickoff returner role this season.

Week 3: at Seattle Seahawks

Mark and Joe say: Neutral matchup. Super Bowl Rematch! Peyton Manning had a nightmare from the very first snap of the Super Bowl on February 2, 2014 - he eventually posted 34/49 for 280 yards passing, one TD and two interceptions, with one sack taken for -1 yards, but the final score was 8-43 in favor of Seattle. One of the interceptions that Manning threw was returned for a pick-six TD. Manning is the fifth-ranked fantasy quarterback through two games, but is tied for the league lead with six passing scores - he's thrown 43/62 for for 511 yards, six TDs and zero interceptions so far this year (with 5/-4/0 rushing in typical Peyton Manning fashion). Five of Manning's six TDs have gone to tight ends this year, with 13 targets for 11/143/4 flowing to Julius Thomas and one for 1/4/1 landing in Jacob Tamme's arms. Demaryius Thomas has seen 18 targets for 9/110/1 receiving, tied with Emmanuel Sanders at 18 targets (for 14/185/0 receiving) to lead the team in targets so far this season. Manning has a wealth of receivers to choose from, and it looks like Wes Welker will be back in action during Week 3, unless there is a hang-up with the new NFL-NFLPA drug testing agreement. Seattle was exposed by the Chargers on Sunday - San Diego piled up 28/37 for 276 yards passing, three TDs and zero interceptions, while Philip Rivers was sacked just once for -8 yards. Antonio Gates snaffled up all three TDs with seven targets for 7/96/3 receiving - Seattle trailed the final three quarters of the game. To date, Seattle ranks 18th in the NFL averaging 225.5 net passing yards allowed per game, with four passing scores given up vs. one interception generated. There are some lessons for the Broncos to learn from last week's game. Manning was frustrated by the Seahawks seven months ago - he has a tough neutral matchup ahead in the Seahawks' vociferous house this week. The rushing matchup is bad for the Broncos, so if they are to be competitive in this game it will be up to Manning and his passing arm.

2014 Week 1 vs IND (5 / 2 / 16 / 0 rec)

With Wes Welker out, Andre Caldwell was officially named a starter, although he was not on the field for Denver's first play as they opened in a 2-TE set. That wound up being a theme for the night, as Denver's offense was split pretty evenly between sets featuring 1 tight end and 3 wide receivers and sets featuring 2 tight ends and 2 wide receivers. Andre Caldwell mostly served as an outlet should the defense devote too much attention to Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas, or Emmanuel Sanders. Caldwell converted a pair of first downs, but also had a costly drop on 2nd-and-19 that stalled out a drive to begin the second half.

Broncos | Andre Caldwell starting Week 1 (Sun Sep 7, 06:51 PM) - Denver Broncos WR Andre Caldwell is listed as a starter for Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts Sunday, Sept. 7, in place of the suspended WR Wes Welker. The team is expected to use a combination of WRs Emmanuel Sanders, Demaryius Thomas and even their running backs in the slot for Week 1. The team might also use two tight ends while using flex TE Jacob Tamme in the slot.

Our View: Caldwell is looking like the safer PPR play, while Cody Latimer's rumored red zone involvement makes him the upside play in nonPPR leagues. Both are worth consideration as flex material simply by being one of Peyton Manning's targets tonight against a weak defense.
